new year...new me!x
how much weight did you loose in the 1st week after your surgery? i have lost 7lbs...and while in the grand scheme this is good news, i could not help but feel a little disappointed as i had visions rightly or wrongly that i would loose twice as much...my dr explained that when i start eating my matabalism will kick start and THEN the weight will really start moving...but i can help thinking he was fobbing me off???:(

think I only lost 3-4lbs so 7lbs is great! He's not fobbing you off, while you're on liquids it's very easy for your body to go into starvation mode which slows your metabolism and makes your body hold on to every ounce of fat there is. Once you start eating your body realises it will be fed regularly and starts to let go, and speeds up your metabolism.

Mermaid, I am not a bypasser but for 1 week that is an amazing weightloss and you should feel very proud. And your doctor is right, right now your body is still adjusting big time, so don't beat yourself up over what is not a failure by any means.

Thats half a stone in a week, carry on this way and it will be a really quick weightloss indeed.

But remember, all WLS for each person is different, the best thing is not to have expectations, just celebrate the good things, like loosing half a stone in a week...well done you.:)

No, your doc is right. You may not be getting enough food in to convince your body you are not starving because of your swollen pouch. As you get further on and can eat more you metabolism will increase and you will start burning fat. Just try to eat as much as you can and as often as you can while you are in the beginning (I know, it goes against every diet you have ever done) so that your body stays out of starvation mode and lets you burn fat for fuel.

How much did you shed on your pre-op? Many people who drop a good amount of weight pre-op don't see a massive loss in the first few weeks.

Just keep at it and don't worry about the pounds, they will come off soon enough!

Nic:)

Mermaid, Im still pre op but I would say that 7lb loss in the first week is very good indeed - especially when you consider how much you lost on the pre op diet.

I'd say that Nic's advice above is spot on. Eat as much as you can so that your body knows it isnt starving and the weight loss will take care of itself.

Mermaid dont compare yourself with anyone else, we are all different...you will set yourself up for disappointment as it all depends on how much you have to loose as well and people with massive weight losses in the first few months slow down so it balances itself out over all. Look at the bigger picture chick...xx

That is a big loss, congrats hun!! That is the most likely reason you haven't had a 'bigger' loss this week, all your 'water weight' & glycemic (sp?) stores came off pre-op. CG is right, we all lose weight in different amounts and don't you think for a moment that 7lbs is not a terrific first week. I don't think I lost that much my first week, 10 days after surgery I still felt a little bloat from the surgery!! You are doing great but don't rain on your own parade by comparing yourself to others. It is never good to do that, just do your best to eat healthy balanced foods and your weight will drop.

Nic:D
