Can I add Nesquik to the milk? Pre-op diet question?

Really struggling with the raw milk (even with 750ml mixed with slim fast) just wondering can I mix in nesquik or similar or buy vanilla/ flavoured milk?

Thanks in advance :)

They are loaded with sugar but it would depend on your team's rules. You would be best calling them and asking them. Xx

You can add sugar free crusha :D
Monin also do a range of fabulous sugar free syrups... I wish I had of known about them when I did my 3 weeks on the milk diet!

Same as Sashie says, I would say not as it could impact on the shrinking of your liver, which in turn could impact on your surgery - but best to check with your provider.

Do you drink coffee? I made my milk into iced lattes during my pre-op - great in the warmer weather.

Oooo will get some crusha tomorrow then. I noticed that slim fast sugar content is quite high! But I been to have 3x slim fast with milk a day, 4-5 yogurts and an oxo drink pm. I all of a sudden feel confused about my pre-op diet lol! Going to text my care coordinator me thinks!

Hiya Hollie, I used crushe you can get either the raspberry one or strawberry, and its great for ice lollies too. even after the opp. good luck hunny x

Hello, I had the same surgeon as you!! just wanted to say hi - no idea about the crusha etc as I stuck to the pre-made slimfast and milk/yogurts (I now cannot stand the site of slimfast, far too sweet!) hope you are doing ok x

NT1977,

Hello there! How was your surgery! How long have you been banded! I would PM but don't have the privileges as yet (must be getting close though!)

Thank you everyone for your feedback :)

Different providers will say yes to the No added sugar versions of crusha (be aware most are not no added sugar!) but some will say no - always check with your provider as its their guidelines that you need to be following. They vary so much and often different advice to different people . . .

its great to have on the post op liquid stage tho :) and if you mix it with crushed ice, its thicker and will help to fill you up if you are allowed it pre-op

My operation is the best thing I have ever done, seriously already it has made such a difference to me.

I was banded on the 9th June after following the pre-op diet for two weeks. Circumstances are that I consider myself to be a food (and I was a diet coke) addict, using food for comfort and reward. I am currently going through different formats of CBT Therapy to address some of my mental issues

Mr Richardson is lovely and very honest about you changing your mindset and the band being a tool, not a magic wand. I really liked his whole to the point approach (which I am aware some people would not like). He was happy with how I followed the pre-op diet and when he fitted the band put 4mls in a 10ml band which seems to be helping already. first fill on the 16th July.

Ask away with any questions, happy to help where I can

Nina

I can't find any sugar free crusha but wasn't allowed it anyway. :/ I'm looking forward to hearing more about your band and progress. Nervous about the surgery and the first day of my pre-op diet I have been starving (on day 7) little fed up xx

Nina,
Did you gave to have post -op heparin injections after your surgery? Like ones you self-inject at home for days afterwards?

Hi Hollie

How are you feeling today?! I know it's hard, especially weekends just try to stay focused on your end goal. This phase will pass so quickly.

I had to self inject for seven days but this may not be standard as I had a blood clot (PE) in 2011 and nearly died so I have to inject before flights of it ill in bed etc. are you worried about doing this?!

Nina xxx

Hi nina,

No use curious. Didn't actually have DVT but it scared me enough to be cautious. Ill see what happens. I was fed up because my family were all eating BBQ which is my fav lol xxx

If you are worried and have had a scare like that I would think they woudl supply you with 7 days worth like me, they certainly do not take risks. I wore my stockings for two weeks as well and made sure I moved around a lot. I was up and about within an hour of being on the ward and I really think that this has helped my speedy recovery. I took things slow and steady but kept moving.

It sucks when people are eating and you cannot, in a few weeks though you will be able to join in the BBQ, I did yesterday and surprised myself by how much my attitude towards my favourite foods has changed

Are you excited?

x

I am :) the nurse just phoned to ask me some pre-op questions! Only 3 days left on this diet (I am having to pinch my nose to drink the milk do I can't taste or I vomit) stepped on the scales and have lost 9.7lbs since last Monday (1st) which is a massive bonus for this pre-op diet :) very excited about it, so are my friends for me too they know how unhappy I have been. Have had some spiteful comments but I don't give a ___.

I will speak to Mr Richardson about it but if he thinks I don't need it then ill be happy :) just cautious about it (does not help being a nurse either!)

After surgery I looked for something to add to milk, really shocked at the surgar content of everything (nice):cry:Can't believe I gave my kids Nesquick. Good luck with surgery, I am 3 weeks post opp and while everyone had BBQ yesterday I saved one sausage which I blended with mash and low cal cheese was ok! Surprised myself I didn't fancy the BBQ

Thats it - keep focused on the postives. What are you going to have post op? I was having about 1/3 of a slimfast for breakfast and lunch and some soup for my dinner for the first week and then it gradually increased.

Just started on normal food again and it is going ok, just need to remember to chew.

N

PS - good attitude towards the negative people too, you are taking control of who you are going to be, how that is negative I do not know. this is not the easy/simple option like I have been told a couple of times. this requires discipline, perseverance and a truck load willpower x
