Get an early night and sleep it away. It gets easier i promise u :) Keep yourself busy tomorrow and if u feel like eating pop in some gum.

Anything u need i'm here . Speak soon xxx

Hi Alice,
A big well done for doing day 1 - you are really on countdown now and that will help to spur you on over the next few days. Drink lots which will help with the hunger and the sugar free gum is a godsend for sorting the mouth out! It will get easier, stick at it xx

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the encouragement. You are all really kind.

I am in a better mood today. I was so p*ssed off with myself yesterday for allowing myself to get into such a state where I had to shrink my liver by starving myself for a week so that I could undergo elective surgery which could kill me!

I am still hungry this morning but actually it's not as bad as yesterday which is a relief! I was thinking it would be worse. I know I shouldn't weigh myself daily but I was curious to see if the scales saw any change... And they are 5lb down! From one day!

Thanks again for the support. I'll get some gum to chew on (I had thrown it all away in anticipation of the band!) and keep a PMA.

Alice xx

PMSL!! This is a better mood??????
Now then Alice, you need to stop focussing on the negative and start focussing on all of the great things that you will be able to do once you have had the op - think of the shopping for one, better health, compliments, happiness and so on - that will keep you going much better than thinking of all of the maybe's and things that might happen.

End of lecture!!!!! Well done on the loss already - that is a great inspiration for you, keep going xx

lol fair point Ali! My husband keeps telling me to stop moaning - he says I was like a stroppy teenager last night. I need to be much more positive.

Here's a start: I just had one of my two yoghurts of the day... And muller lights have never tasted so good! lol

Keep strong Alice, you're doing really well. 5lbs on day 1 is amazing! Mine seems to be a steady 2lbs per day so you're doing really well. Ali's right, its much easier if you focus on the positive. One thing I try to do is only concern myself with that which I have control over. Anything that is out of my control isn't worth worrying about. I have control over my pre-op diet, I can make it work, and so I'm focusing on getting through one day at a time.

LOL!!! That is much more positive - keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!

everyone is dong so well bravo!! it feels good to come on and see everyone doing well. ALI hit it on the nail , i just think of all the good things to come and how happy i will be. each day brings it more a reality instead of a dream that i am good lol
again NRAVO on such a good start.

Hi Ali,

It's been really tough. Been horribly hungry all day. My 2 yoghurts barely touched the sides and my mouth feels all slimey from the milk. Feeling really anxious about keeping this up for another 6 days...

Pretty miserable tonight... Think I'll just have an early night

Alice xx

Hang in there hun try and focus on something else (easier said that done I know) but also try drinking down a pint of water quickly that will stop you feeling hungry xx

Hi Guys,

Today was a much better day. I was still horribly hungry and developed a disliking of milk (not good on a milk diet lol) but I coped much better with it. Took some co-codamol for the headache so that's gone and generally feel much more positive. Quite proud of myself for sticking to it!

Bit worried about the next few days cos John is going to Amsterdam on business until Thursday. Just worried that I will be tempted to cheat when I am on my own. Will just keep myself busy and focus on the end result.

Thanks everyone for your support... It really helps!

Alice xx

Sure you will be fine hon - if you feel yourself tempted just jump on line and send out an SOS - I am sure there will be someone around to give you the proverbial kick up the backside :whoopass:and talk you out of it.

Hi Alice, just remember ...if u cheat you will sabotage your op cus your surgeon will start the op and not be able to move your liver ...it needs to shrinkbecause it sits over your stomach where the band needs to go...he'd do u back up again. and u'd be charged to have it done again...crikey !!! If thats not an incentive mate....ha ha ...You'll be fine. You'll do it ! Just stay in touch and we'll all help u, Your doing so well !!! xxx

Exactly, this isn't like any other diet, this is only short term (we can cope with anything for just a fortnight) and there is a mega huge rewardy type goal at the end. Any time you want to cheat just think LIVERRRRR! I tell myself if my liver is big it's more likely to get perforated which I DO NOT WANT!

Honestly it does get easier x The tummy hunger will go away, its just the brain hunger thats left, and it's a good time to learn the difference between the two and get used to ignoring the brain hunger.

The time leading up to bariatric surgery is not the time to permit your health and diet to worsen. Getting started on a healthy higher-protein diet, drinking more water and beginning some gentle exercise are excellent ways to get ready for bariatric surgery.
Some bariatric surgeons actually require that candidates for gastric bypass surgery lose 10 percent of their weight before weight loss surgery is performed. This can be accomplished by following a traditional calorie-restricted diet or by using liquid protein diet supplements. It's been shown that losing even 10-15 pounds before bariatric sugery can decrease the risks of complications.
Some surgeons require patients to follow a full liquid protein diet for two weeks before surgery to prepare their system for the transition. A high-protein, calorie restricted diet can also be useful prior to laparoscopic surgery, as it can decrease the size of the liver, which can shorten operating time. Adopting a healthy, reduced calorie diet plan prior to bariatric surgery gets you into the habit of eating less, eating healthy and making the essential dietary changes that will be required after your bariatric surgery, and for the rest of your life.
Bariatric weight loss surgery requires you to make life-changing adjustments before and afterwards. The nutrition consultation with the surgeon or dietitian before bariatric surgery is a very important step in the process - to explain the nutritional requirements and dietary changes that are necessary before and after your bariatric weight loss surgery.
some pre op info.

How has the pre-op gone today Alice, you ok hun??

Starting on a Pre-Bariatric Surgery Diet
Pre bariatric surgery diets typically begin 2 to 3 months before gastric bypass surgery. Depending on a person's health, weight and body composition, bariatric surgery candidates are generally put on a diet by their surgeon or dietician ranging from 800-1200 calories per day, and consisting of 70-120 grams of protein each day. The diet also typically calls for a much lower intake of carbohydrates and dietary fat, especially refined sugars and saturated fat.
A pre-surgery bariatric diet is designed to:
  • Reduce Bodyfat - especially the depot fat around the abdominal mid-section. Since this is the specific surgical area, this is beneficial to the safety of the patient.
  • Preserve Lean Body Mass - intake of sufficient amounts of protein is "anti-catabolic" or "protein sparing". This means that getting adequate protein prevents the body from utilizing lean muscle tissue as an energy source while losing body fat on a calorie restricted diet.
  • Prepare the Body for Post-Surgery Recovery - eating healthy, increasing protein intake and avoiding refined carbohydrates, sugars and saturated fats provides the body with beneficial nutrients, vitamins and minerals that will help prepare it for the nutritionally demanding post-bariatric surgery recovery.
  • Prepare the Patient for the Post-Surgery Diet - following a reduced calorie, higher protein, lower carbohyrdate diet is essentially the way a bariatric surgery patient will be eating for the rest of their life. Therefore, before the surgery is the best time to get used to making healthy food choices and using protein diet supplements that will be needed after surgery.
Specially designed bariatric protein diet products and bariatric vitamins and minerals can be very helpful during the bariatric pre-surgery phase to help patients achieve their dietary goals. Many of our bariatric protein products come in convenient portion-controlled packets, which ensures the correct portion size, while providing the optimal amount of high-quality protein and minimal amounts of carbohydrates, sugars and fat. Make sure to consult with your surgeon and/or dietician before beginning a pre-surgery diet.
end of info. so no big meals or buffet the night before etc. you've already started and the more you loose the better you'll feel.
thanks susie
