Hi
I've been reading the forum for a while but really need some guidance,

I no a lot of people are waiting for appointments at st Richards but could you explain the process from start to finish, like what you had to do, appointments you have to attend and who decides whether or not you actually have surgery!

Many thanks

I had my op at St Richards 19 months ago, the process at the hospital hasn't appeared to have changed much. But funding and criteria etc has changed significantly, and i really don't know enough to comment.

Once you have funding etc you will get a questionnaire from St Richards regarding your eating habits and pmh. There will also be a 5 day food diary. Once you send this back, you will placed on the waiting list for your MDT (multi disaplinary team meeting), the wait for this is between 12 and 18 weeks. The MDT at St Richards is your first and only assessment appointment, you will see a psychologist, nurse specialist, dietician, medical doctor and anaesthetist all in the morning. In the afternoon you are sent off to lunch when all the professionals discuss your (and other attendees) cases. When you return you are called in to talk to one of the team who give you the result, if its a yes (it normally is) then you go in to talk to one of the surgeons.

The date for surgery is usually about 18 weeks after the MDT, you will only have to go back once before for your pre op assessment.

At the hospital your stay is usually 2 nights, during this time they start you on purees.

Afterwards you see the team at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months and 9 to 12 months post op, sometimes beyond depending on your needs. Personally i was discharged at 10 months because of my "exceptional progress" lol.

I hope this helps a little.

How far along are u in the process? (With the weight management?)

Aww thanks for your reply! What kind of things do they ask you at the mdt? I have mine next month but I did my tier 3 last week but I didn't get referred to Chichester till may!
I'm a bit worried about it because I've gained weight since and i have pretty bad depression so I'm worried they'll say no because of that!

I feel like I don't no what they're wanting from me and I don't want to say the wrong thing :(

I've just been told from one of the St Richards MDT team that they have a 10 month waiting list! Maybe I should switch hospitals if that's even possible!

I finished tier 3 last year but for a few reasons didn't get referred for surgery. I went to Chichester as a private band patient but was advised it wouldn't do me much good being so good, the surgeon told me to go get a referral from my dr, which I did and I had my mdt last week. I'm just waiting for a date now x

Harley it's a provisional date, not guaranteed and I'm guessing I could be bumped out the way at any point of need be. But I meant 10 months from being referred to operation.
