I had my op at St Richards 19 months ago, the process at the hospital hasn't appeared to have changed much. But funding and criteria etc has changed significantly, and i really don't know enough to comment.
Once you have funding etc you will get a questionnaire from St Richards regarding your eating habits and pmh. There will also be a 5 day food diary. Once you send this back, you will placed on the waiting list for your MDT (multi disaplinary team meeting), the wait for this is between 12 and 18 weeks. The MDT at St Richards is your first and only assessment appointment, you will see a psychologist, nurse specialist, dietician, medical doctor and anaesthetist all in the morning. In the afternoon you are sent off to lunch when all the professionals discuss your (and other attendees) cases. When you return you are called in to talk to one of the team who give you the result, if its a yes (it normally is) then you go in to talk to one of the surgeons.
The date for surgery is usually about 18 weeks after the MDT, you will only have to go back once before for your pre op assessment.
At the hospital your stay is usually 2 nights, during this time they start you on purees.
Afterwards you see the team at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months and 9 to 12 months post op, sometimes beyond depending on your needs. Personally i was discharged at 10 months because of my "exceptional progress" lol.
I hope this helps a little.
