Chicken!

Trying to improve my protein intake & had some chicken. OMG did not agree with me at all. Felt immediately sick, chest pain - despite chewing & chewing & chewing & then just threw up.
I am despairing as everything I try to give good quality & quantity protein just doesn't seem to work for me.
Tried & no good so far:
Slimfast shakes
Milk
Milk powder
Whey protein
Lightly scrambled egg
Minced beef
Crab pate
Any further advice would be welcome.

I was told that Quorn was a good alternative for people who were struggling with meat. However if you're struggling with milk I would suggest talking to your dietitian and seeing what they say. What are you able to eat?

Can manage 1 weetabix with a tiny bit of milk, most soups with small bits, laughing cow light cheese triangles, 1 or 2 Melba toasts if I eat very slowly, managed a little reduced fat pate on it the other day, sloppy mash potato ( I add a little low fat cheese to it). Couple of teaspoons of squashed baked beans. Fage 0% yogurt. Can't get anywhere above 20g protein a day. So I was trying to get high quality protein in mall volumes coz can't eat much.
Spoke to hospital team last week about it & they suggested various things tht I've tried but not much success. I used to eat a lot of Quorn so wil try it again. I'm going to try some lightly poached soft fish. I am not hungry at all but stressing out about this lack of protein.
I am now doing 4 exercise classes a week but my weight loss has been static for over 2 weeks. First negative feelings since journey began but keeping my chin up as much as possible.

Do you like Peanut butter?Excellent protein get Whole Earth from Asda or Morrisons,Almonds, tuna, add Marvel to everything.Tuna mashed with balsamic or lf mayo goes down easily.Lightly scrambled egg with grated cheese.Boiled egg mashed with a little mayo, corned beef hash was one of my fave meals soft and gets the meat in.Cod in sauce.Tinned minced lamb/beef is easy to eat too.

Will def get peanut butter & try. Minced lamb & beef came up as soon as it went down. Eggs too. Tried some lightly poached haddock this evening. Stayed in but felt very sick for 1/2 hour after. Good idea about corned beef as it is very soft. Gonna give that a try. Marvel makes me froth at the mouth like a rabied dog. Not a good look LOL

Hi,

I also cannot eat chicken and I am 9mths post op. Have you tried cheese triangles my team suggested them to me when I was having trouble with keeping meat down :D

Good luck x

I find tuna-mayo difficult to eat, no idea why. I think any meaty fish is difficult..like salmon, cod, haddock. The flat fish work better, like plaice, sea bass (my favourite!) and the like. I can eat smoked salmon but not fresh salmon.

I can eat most kinds of egg, luckily, and cheese, and milk but I'm not having any milk right now as I don't have it in my tea and I'm off cereal. So I have upped my cheese intake.

Chicken (dark meat not breast meat) is fine in very small quantities..wings are best of all. Chicken salami is fine too.

I was also told that Quorn meat can help when meats difficult! How annoying for you hope u find some things that work for u x

Thx yes they are staying down - laughing cow light. Also found muller 0 % fat Greek style yogurt with coconut & vanilla today. 6.2 g protein per 100g & tastes nice & stayed down tonight yipppeeeee.
Well done with your weight loss.

From what I can see from all your helpful posts it's trial & error but be careful. I just had feeling sick so it makes me feel frightened of trying new things. Maybe I trying too hard. I think I will have a few steady stabilised days going forward before I try to 'assault' my little pouch again. Cheers everyone. X
