Christmas after RNY

Fashionably Late

is a skinny size XS & 6!
I will be one month post bypass when it is Christmas. Will I even be able to stomach something mushy like mashed potato? If so, what other things are a possibility food wise that soon post bypass?

I think at a month post bypass, you should be able to manage some mash, gravy, some soft veg. Not sure about the meat - Im still struggling with that at 8 weeks, but we are all different.

The beauty is that this christmas, you wont be thinking about food all day!

Hi FL, I'll be 7 weeks post op and hope to have a little Christmas dinner even if it is just the mash n gravy!! Mum is doing Christmas this year so don't have to cook for everyone which is a blessing, I'll just turn up with my blender! :happy036:

Cuppa xx

Not sure but I didn't want to "read and run".

I just wanted to add to sambucca's point and say that in my case, although I'm having surgery in the form of a band I still know that thinking about food and the triggers that make me want to eat will not go away overnight. I'm sure I wont be thinking about food alot but I'm sure I will thinking about the selection that everyone else is having...

If anything I think surgery in any of its forms makes you think about food even more, which is good because you have to think about what you are consuming in order to make the right choice.

That is something I am looking forward to. My husband wants me to postpone the op until after Christmas but I really don't want to. There will always be some sort of holiday.

Hiya no dont postpone your op, because no matter what month you have it on its always going to be what ifs or thats such a bodies birthday, therefore you would never get it done LOL. Go with the flow I would say and have which ever day you can. As the saying goes F/L "Theres no time like the PRESENT" take care Gail.x

You should be able to eat mash n gravy at least by then.Deffo don't cancel/postpone the op you'll be fine, and Xmas is only 1 day remember!!;)

Why wait?? You'll only gain more weight at christmas that you'll have to shift lol. Your christmas dinner will be lovely this year because you won't have stuffed yourself and it will taste delicious after all the liquid foods you will have had over the previous monthxx

I've been worrying about xmas too, my nan used to do the xmas dinner for the whole family, but since she died I've taken over. I'm having my surgery on 15th November and don't know how Im going to cope with cooking a big dinner, and then having everyone around me eating and drinking all day.

I have thought about not doing the xmas dinner this year but I can't let the family down.

Im really going miss my cold turkey sandwich's I always have at about 8pm xmas evening .

xx

Hi

I am currently 3 1/2 weeks post op and I've just eaten some mashed potato, mashed veg and gravy so that should be fine. I think it will be too early for meat. If you are like me though, the last thing on your mind will be food! I have no appetite at all.

x

Thanks everyone! It is just my nerves are getting to me.

il be 9 weeks postop hopefully il be able to stomach the full works (on a tea plate) :(

4 weeks post op- you should be coming off mush and onto solids I would guess. Mash - good, soft veggies - good, gravy - good, bit of turkey breast in lots of gravy should go down nicely too

I really appreciate everyones input. I have told my husband that I am definitely not postponing the op. It will just be strange to have a holiday without the day revolving around food.

My nearly 12 year old daughter will be spending the holidays with her dad in Florida so it will just be hubby, the twins and I so Christmas will be a much more relaxed holiday since they are only 3.

I had my Op on the 6th December last year and I had for my Christmas dinner 1 brussel sprout,1 teaspoon of mash, 1 teaspoon Carrots/turnip, 1 teaspoon of Cauli, and Gravy and I was stuffed to the brim, I really enjoyed it and didn't feel deprived at all, I even had 2 spoons of Trifle for afters.

That is EXACTLY what I have planned for my xmas day dinner lol (maybe 2 brussels ;0)

The question is what have you planned for this christmas dinner haha as you will be eating as normal as it gets ?

I'll be 5 weeks post op i think on Christmas Day and we were discussing last night what will I have so this thread is a god send for me thank you so much for thinking of it!!! :D My only question is about the content of the gravy etc? Does it have to be low fat or something? I've so much to learn eh! xxxxx

I hadnt planned on cooking this year angelwings but has considered the gravy dilema.

I am going to ask my sister to save some of the gravy to cool completely so that the fat sets on the top then remove all the fat and reheat ym portion of gravy.

Either that or try different gravies out once I go onto sloppies so i can make my own to take to sisters.

Have bought a jar of sainsburys taste the difference gravy to see how that goes down once on sloppies will let you know what it is like and whether it causes any problemos.

Xx

We're going to a friends house for Christmas dinner. She emailed me last week to tell me that she has put my brussel sprout on to boil just so that it is nice and mushy. What friends I have!
