Debs ramblings about her NHS sleeve...

I'm going private, as my gp gave me xenical and told me everything would be alright, lol. I think given your insight it would be better for me to keep it quiet. Mine would be 8-5, 5 x a week... Maybe I should wait until summer?

Yuck - xenical. Yellow/ orange grease poop - yes that's going to fix it isn't it - NOT!!!!!

I am not probably the most balance of folks! If you have a recovery like mine you'd manage. You could go sick last week of Xmas term on 5 days self certificated and get op done first day. Then 2 weeks over Xmas gives you just over 3 weeks.
Yes you'd be knackered. But if you explain to family you will be in bed by 8pm that would work perhaps.

Leaving it till July is also an option. But you'd possibly be at target weight by then if you press on. The worse that can happen is you will need to go sick. GP can simply call it post surgery complications ?

Would you meet the NHS criteria - ie BMI over 40 etc? If so, you're only paying to speed the process up. And I am sure you could make that case that you meet the NICE guidance. If we knew what our recovery journey was before hand we'd all be able to plan better of course. Hindsight isn't that predictable is it - sadly!

I was 48 when I had my op so hardly a sprig chicken!

Hope you can work things out to suit you best

I couldn't control my bowels.. talking to people and feeling that stinky trickle that doesn't even wipe away cleanly! I donated the rest to a friend.

I might request a week off last week of December. Thanks for all your help. X

Sorry to hear of your disappointment at a gain. Now that's not real weight gain girl! Jeez I how many calories would it take

So..... Ride it out and continue on you amazingly successful journey xx

Well more time elapse. More learning taking place.

I am back down to 14 stone 6. So whatever caused those few pounds has been remedied. I am watching the liquid calories now. Essential at the early stage but one to watch I guess when more solid food is being chucked down the hatch!

I am a dimwit! Eating tuna for tea on Sunday night - all very WLS compliant - and without thinking took a swig of my daughters orange tango - no idea why - not a conscious thing. Orange foamies with a tuna hue isn't the easiest thing to flush - I can personally confirm that fizzy isn't too good for my sleeve - what a dopey mare I am.

Saturday wasn't much better. Family had chinese and another sleeved lady had written that she managed yuk sung - minced pork which your wrap in lettuce leaves. Well I must have eaten that much to quickly so that made a re-entry within a minute or so!

5 months out and still making school girl errors!

We can all make mistakes and we have to keep learning. Suzy Sleeve makes her presence known again!

Have a good week x

Hi Debs,

It's so nice to hear from you and happy that you're back on track.

I don't suppose you will ever stop learning new things about your sleeve.

I can imagine that what it keeps down one day it throws back the next :)

Xx

Well my first holiday abroad since my sleeve.

It's lovely and warm in Madeira.

I found my restriction was enhanced on the day j flew. May be all in my head!

Eating has been ok. Just nibbled and made the best choices I could.

Was a nice was to see how flying went. Even had some sangria so this has been a slight deviation feel the hospitals instruction of no alcohol for 12 months ?

Hope everyone is ok.

Hello :)

I saw Dr Hartland and then Mr Mirza who all confirmed green light. I was then sent an appointment for my pre op assessment which as you know, at the time I passed. You're actually in the list as soon as both doctors give you the green light. You won't get pre op assessed unless you are on the list and approved for surgery. So whether you are told or otherwise you're on it then.

After pre op, it was then a case of waiting for a phone call to give you the date. I waited 3-4 weeks for the call which came end of April. First date they gave me was May 20th.

Only potential delay that might impact for you is the unknown affect of a harsh winter - more trips/falls/breaks etc means more urgent theatre use and elective surgery gets bumped. Also harsh winters can lead to more inpatient issues and thus this can impact on beds for elective surgery. Doubt a huge issue - but one with mentioning I guess.

Just don't get MRSA colony in your nose now - I was clear in my April pre op but when the repeated my pre op a few weeks later I was infected which delayed my op.

Not long now! x

Yesterday was not a good sleeve on holiday dinner! Three times I left the table and was sick after each course. Everything I ate was food I had been familiar with and had eaten often. I selected small amounts but my sleeve was in super restriction and nothing stayed in. I no longer stress about being sick. It's too common for me to be hysterical anymore! It was disruptive though - lol.

Thanks for answering my question debs im sure i will have more lol. Good point about the winter and possible delays im hoping for surgery about march time.
Are you sick a lot? I hate being sick and it brings me out in a rash all over my face like tiny bruise from where i strain. Im not looking forward to that one.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Kirsty xx

Hi Debs,

You look lovely in your picture.

So glad your managing to enjoy your holiday. What a shame that your sleeve is still playing tricks on you :)

You've always had such a great, practical attitude to everything. I can imagine your the person to have around in a disaster.

I have visions of you just quietly getting up, nipping to the loo, cleaning yourself up and returning to the table as if nothing's happened :)

xx

You are looking wonderful, hope you sleeve settles and enjoy your holiday x

Being sick isn't like pre op sickness. Pre op sickness was stomach churning gut wrenching throat aching heaving. Now it just comes up as a foamy lump like a bird regurgitating for for her infants. It's not an effort. It slips out - flush away - rinse with water - back to the table. I am uber efficient now at this. I am sick most weeks. Usually too fast, not chewed enough, sleeve being weird, acid in tummy, too much, dehydrated.

It's not painful and it's not any bother x

No weight gain on holiday.

No loss either.

Not lost anything now since 15th October. If this is a stall it's a record long one!

Depressing.

Well my 6 week stall has finally broken!

I've finally shifted from 14 stone 6. It's the first loss since 15th October. Haven't cheated. Still on between 1000-1200 calories a day but clearly my body decided it needed to rest from weight loss ?????

Anyhow, now I am 14 stone 4. It would be pretty awesome to see out 2013 in the 13 stone bracket but given my very long stall that may be a little optimistic.

That said, I've lost almost 62% of my excess weight. My sleeve was supposed to help me lose 69-70% so it's done its job if nothing else at all changes in fairness and I remain very very thankful and grateful for the chance the NHS gave me.

I know once I get to 13 stone 9 my BMI will be just a smudge under 30 and for the first time since a teenager - I will only be overweight!!!!! Yahoo!!!!

Scary isn't it.

I am not the fastest. I've not lost the most. I do still eat to fast sometimes or eat without chewing enough. Occasionally I get the drink time wrong. Each time that happens I am sick. It's a quick sharp reminder that I live within a sleeve. And my sleeve is boss!

Hope everyone is doing well. Stay safe and stay happy X
