Diet coke

Especially if you forget to take the horse brasses out :D:D

There are so many other things out there to drink, this coke obsession is just that, an obsession ... lets all give it a lifetime ban & do ourselves a favour :D:D xx

Name me a few that are low calorie and not laden with sweeteners or additives.....i can't seem to find anything that i enjoy drinking :sigh:

Cokes contain much more crap than just the artificial sweeteners that are in NAS squashes and that's why the squashes are seen as a better option. To be honest though anything sweet will trigger the cravings for sweet stuffs. That's why I baulk at people eating sugar free sweets and cakes, they may contain no sugar and little fats but it's a behavioural thing with me. My head knows they are sugar free but my mind tells me I'm eating sweets and cakes and it's OK. It would be only a short time until I'd be on the real stuff.

I've seen a brilliant WLS post opper here who had their head well sorted but even they succumbed to the bad behaviour in time and started eating sweet stuff resulting in a weight gain over time

We have to modify our behaviour and that is so hard to do and anything that can undermine that makes it harder. For two years I only drank Volvic with a hint of lemon and coffee

Well said, I'm nearly 11 weeks post bypass steering clear of anything sweet as too scared of dumping and don't want to get into the bad habits that led me here in the first place!

One of the bad bypass stories I know personally was my friend's SIL. Their MIL had bypass and then paid for both of her daughters in law to have it too. My friend did fabulously on it, she's a size 6, has been in maintenance for 2 years, has totally changed her life. She's the one that told me this is a 'reset' button, you get to start over and do it right this time.
Her sister in law had more head issues than body ones. She refused to give up Dr. Pepper, even telling my friend that it was her 'best friend' and that she'd 'rather die' than give it up. She lost weight, absorption and intake went down overall. But after a year, she had perforated her new gut, infection set in, organs started failing. She was still conscious when the doctors had reached the nothing-more-to-do point and had to tell her husband that it was okay to turn off the life support when the time came. She left behind four children, ages 11 to 19.

I weaned off all fizzy drinks a couple of years ago. Now I drink Evian, flavoured Volvic, iced tea. When I go to the US I get Crystal Lite flavours for water or sugar-free Kool-Aid packets. Grapefruit juice mixed half with water and a sprinkle of Stevia is really refreshing on a hot day. You can even freeze it and make your own pink calippo :)

Just seen this post ... the previous lady & Karlos have listed all the ones I use so no point going over it again. There are really lots of sugar free options ... I even like iced coffee now but would never have gone there pre op when the fizzies ruled. You will find your own way with what you do & don't like but don't over do the grapefruit as it can be a bit caustic on our little tums. :)

Now that is a problem :( you will need to work on that :sigh: If you are not the type to drink a full glass of anything straight down, which post op isn't even possible, buy a water bottle & sip it throughout the day. Most hold 1ltre or 750mls & are much easier to face than a glass full. I now get through 4 750mls + any hot drinks I may have. It wasn't like that in the beginning though, I have had to work up to that volume but it really is a must for all kinds of reasons. A well hydrated body is a much healthier body + it speeds up your metabolic rate so it is a win win situation. Give it your best shot, honey :) xxx

Thing is post op I can drink loads I can drink a full cup of tea for example!!plus full mug of milk no problems so I am trying to slow myself down

If it isn't uncomfortable & you are allowing 30mins either side of a meal, you are fine. Most people do struggle to drink enough so if you aren't, I would count my blessings :) Just adhere to the before & after meals rule & you will do fine :) xxx

No I stick to the meal rule, but I am quite grateful that I can drink without any issues, I am now on puree and starting to get some fullness signals which is a releif as I was worried it was all going to rush through!!!

Once you are on solid protein (chicken etc) you will really feel the restriction :) xxx
