At goal at last.....
I started checking the labels after I was diagnosed with diabetes and was astounded by the amount of sugar in food - even the diet products. It seems that when they take out the fat they replace it with sugar or salt otherwise it would taste like cardboard. Cereals were the absolute worst and I now only eat porridge, shredded wheat or weetabix. I also started to notice the carbs (as these convert to sugar in the body)
Gail, when I was diagnosed with diabetes my doctor warned me about the sugar contained in fruit - he said two of the worst were grapes and peaches and said berries and citrus fruits were the best option. Also it's one of the reasons why the Atkins diet only allows berries because of the fructose (fruit sugars). I wouldn't worry too much though as it's natural sugar (as Mixman says) but its good to know what your eating and how it acts when inside your body.
Well to be honest I eat grapes quite a lot thinking Ime O.K but after reading the contents I might give them a miss for a while. A usual punnet contains approx: 500g, 100g of the grapes is only 63cals, However...... protein 0.4g, carbs 12g of which sugars 12g. Ime sure I have read on here that these count as natural sugars but it still looks a bit iffy. Gail x
