I would imagine they have a set amount that they take Kelly....they know from years of experience that it they take too much or too little the sleeve wont be as effective....dont worry they will get it just right XX

I think they remove between 60 and 85% to make your new banana shaped stomach. I suppose it depends on your start weight though x

Kell, I wouldn't worry one iota about this (not sure if iota is in the dictionary). I learned last week, how technical and clever these surgeons are and they are so used to handling our inners it's a science to them. Whatever you do, don't worry, think of Mixxy at all times and hang onto that thought... what a role model!

I think they use an instrument called a bougie that comes in different sizes and thats how they decide. They sort of stitch round it.

They are experienced and know how much to take.

They do these ops day in, day out (well they do at SRH!) and they don't let them loose until they know what they're doing! I think you're in a safe pair of hands!

As Angela says, surgeons typically use a bougie to measure what you will be left with...it's typically a pre-defined capacity which may vary a little bit from hospital to hospital, anyway from 60 - 85% of the stomach. Don't worry Kel, I'm sure you won't be short-changed!xxx

I was facinated that some surgeons use a piece of tape to measure the length of intestine they use.

yep it a bougie they use they slide IT down your throat when your under anesthetic and trims the new stomach to the size of bougie the surgeon thinks will be best for you,
i had 85% removed and its working great for me with no problems at all,
best of all you know nothing about it lol

Don't know how much they took off me but I remember him saying I had a very large stomach and from the way I feel I think he must have nearly taken the lot!!
When I was reading up on it the info I was getting was between 75-90% depending on surgeon.

I was never given a set percentage as to what was left, I was told the capacity of my stomache would be 200mls approx and that he had taken 850ml of stomach from me. All I know is that a week on I can't fit a whole shape yogurt in there yet.
