Hi, im just wondering how you post oppers adjusted to not eating and drinking at the same time.
Im a bit worried about this.
Did you adapt easily or did it take time to adjust?
Did it come naturally? xxxx

It takes time to adjust for sure! Im finding it easier as time goes on but it isnt easy changing a habit of a lifetime. :D XX

Tbh it's been very easy for me. Usually the only time i ate and drank at the same time was breakfast and if out for a meal so it was only a slight difference...

I do confess to occasionally having a drink with food, if i'm in a pub as you feel self conscious sat there without a drink waiting for food.... And some mornings it's only about 15 minutes from having my first cuppa of the day till i have my cereals, however i don't always have the time to wait 30 minutes....

Sugga if you are used to eating and drinking at the same time now is when you should start practising not to do it! It won't be a massive chore then.

Also when you first have surgery and are on fluids it kinda helps you get used to drink, drink, drink, you slowly bring food into it and plan around it...

I think the main reason for not drinking after is because it will wash the food through too quickly so you feel hungry sooner (might be wrong)! So you wouldnt really have a bad reaction or anything :D XX

It seems a bit overwhelming at first Andrea but you soon get used to it. I was petrified of eating or drinking the wrong thing and bursting my pouch or opening the stitches or some other OTT thing that was in my mind lol. You will get used to it and youve got all of us here ready to help when you need it :D XX

I think weve all had that one lol....when you wake up and it doesnt hurt as theyve drugged you up you think it really hasnt been done! I had to have a look if I had any cuts :D XX

No I dont, I know sometimes they find they cant do a bypass and do the sleeve or the band like Tranquil has had. Ive never known anyone who its happened to though. Dont worry, you will be ok :D XX

Im glad you dont know anyone its happen to, but to be honest iv been fretting about it ever since tb woke up with the band. I dont have much luck and the though suddenly struck me.
The surgeon said if he was going for the bypass but if not he would do the sleeve............oh crikey what a mess xxx

I found it really hard at first & still do occasionally but it does get easier. We all drink a lot in my house & always have. We don't drink tea or coffee but go thru gallons of bottled water & NAS juice. Now I worry I don't get enough fluids as its hard to fit it all in but like I said it gets easier!! Promise :D

I'm sure you will do fabulously & be a 'pro' in no time ;)

I dont really drink enough either, Im a coffee drinker but I drink it very very weak and it does count towards your fluids. I really need to try more :D XX

I used to be a stickler for drinking right up too dinner, during and str8 after dinner, it does take some time too adjust too it . When I first started I used too time myself , LoL, but now its like second nature . Julie

Hi Andrea,

For me it's probably the most difficult thing to deal with. I find it incredibly hard and have to make myself very concious of drinking regulary throughout the day as otherwise I only really want to drink once I've eaten! Sometimes, I'm torn between eating or drinking and if I choose to eat I'll be so thirsty counting down those minutes until I can have a drink. It's terrible when I have salty foods.

It's funny though because you suddenly become very aware of this rule once you're post op. I'm sure it won't be a problem :)

I still have to time myself, especially after eating because I get so very thirsty after I've eaten. Start now to get used to it Andrea.
This week I discovered why the 'no drinking 30 minutes before' rule. We went out and I was feeling a bit rebellious and drank before my meal...I was SO FULL it was ridiculous and spoiled how much I could eat.
The rules do make sense even though they're a pain.

Try not to worry...easier said than done I know, but think how many ops go right. I believe you're going to be fine.
Grace xxx
