few questions about a bypass

Hello all, I have been on the other site before as I did different things (slimming world etc) you name it like most of you I tried it to! I have always wanted the gastric bypass but Scotlands PCT is very tight for funding.

But I have been lucky enough to come into £7000 from a house sale, really the money should be used to pay off debt but my husband is happy for me to put it towards WLS.

So am sure I can have the rest of the money by the end of March, but was wondering when you pay for the op? is it when you book it or the day you go in for the op? I want to have it with Shaw Somers and believe if your BMI is under 50 its £1000 cheaper, as my BMI is 52 I think I can do that. When is the price decided? is it on the day of the op after the week or 2 on the milk diet?

Thanks for the help and good luck everyone

Hi Sharon

When I booked my private appointment with Shaw Somers I was given a quote over the telephone based on my BMI.

I haven't been told when I will have to pay but I seem to remember seeing somewhere that you pay either just before your op or on the day you are admitted.

I am sure if you ring Shaw's private practice (Streamline) and speak to Stacey she will be able to help you.

I didn't have my op with Shaw Somers. I had my op with Basil Ammori in Manchester, who in my opinion is the best in the world. My fee was determined on the day of my meeting with the company I went through, Healthier Weight.

Shaw is fantastic but also look into Basil Ammori. I know another wonderful lady travelled from Scotland to have her op with BA and it was her recommendation, amongst others on here, that convinced me to have my op with him.

You have to pay when you have your pre-op appt. I went down to Chichester and once you had been weighed etc Christine asks you for payment. Your weight determines how much you pay, plus what package you decide on..if you want the private room rather than the general ward its more expensive
