I think your "local provider" charges too much for the sleeve !!! The figure you quoted on the other page was about £10,500 which is more than my "local provider" charges for the full bypass !!!

My answer would be to stay within the UK but slightly less in debt if you could find a good UK surgeon offering the sleeve for around £7,000.

However .... I realise that the convenience of going local and being able to go for any check-ups must be appealing .... but is it really worth an extra three grand ???

I wonder what kind of "profit margin" your local provider is scraping off the top, being that their quote/charge of £10,500 for a sleeve is at least £3K more than most other UK providers -- what a swizz !!!!!! :(

You seem to be living in the worst area, Becky -- don't qualify on the NHS under your PCT's rules and then they go and charge an extortionate amount when you are forced to go private !!!

Totally agree Sharon, i will be tackling them about this when i speak to them on Wednesday, its a rediculous price! They 'do' sleeves, but it isnt advertised on their website, so i guess the surgeon doesnt like them or something similar!

I've just spoken to my local provider. She has confirmed that the vit supplements are the same whether sleeve or bypass, and that the surgeons still say, for long term maintanence, the bypass is better. I think i am gonna have to go for the bypass after all. Also, she says that if i go abroad, then want extra surgery here a few years down the line, that most british providers wouldnt touch me. I think i am just going to have to save and save until i have enough for the surgery locally.

Ah well, at least you have the full SP, now.

I am totally torn beteen the RNY and the sleeve ..... want the simpler operation, but also want good long term weight loss (just no malnutrition probs or bowel twisting etc) !!

Think something is likely to be my tipping point one way or the other in the next few weeks ..... meanwhile read, read, read and research !!
