Hello
I have just returned from a week away and before I went me and Steph had a conversation about womens cycles post op - was yours different to pre-op, more regular, less regular, longer, shorter, heavier lighter etc...

Just for others to see and maybe realise that whats happening to them is normal?

Hope thats OK and someone somewhere finds it useful!

From being 12-23 I had literally 5-6 bleeds my whole life - from week after my bypass I got a regular bleed (1 day long at first then gradually building up to 5 days each month bang on regular) which is all unheard of for me. 12 months post op stopped contraception night of my wedding, 2 weeks later pregnant!
Tried for baby for 2 years pre-op and nothing.

I had a mirena coil fitted a few years ago so I hadnt had anything really for ages, just a bit of light spotting. Day after surgery Aunto Flo made an unwelcome appearance and has been here ever since  It has slowed down so hopefully it will stop soon :D XX

i had a hysterctomy a few years ago, but ive still got my ovaries, im on the change now, but ive noticed a 2 or 3 times that i do get the symptoms of coming on a period, thats a lot more than ive had in the last couple of years, i thought it was my imagination at first, but now im beginning to wonder if its something to do with the op.

Pre-op

PCOS, sometimes a whole year would pass without a period, painful and irregular.

Post-op 2 years

Periods as regular as clockwork.

PRE-OP.... 'came on' every 4-5 weeks never on time

POST-OP....'came on' bang on every 4 weeks(except for missing one in december and june, still had the usual pain though, so strange as to why) xxx

I had Mirena coil fitted years ago so I'm lucky not to have periods other than occassional spotting once in a blood moon. My years of child bearing are over (2 teen lads).

BUT, 2 weeks after my op I had a slight bleed which only lasted a couple of days. :fingerscrossed:

Pre-op You could set your clock by me
Post-op You can still set your clock by me

I was on my period when I was operated on :( Mr Khan said he didn't mind and I wasn't to worry  Only blip ... my first period after surgery was two weeks late.

Tah

Its amazing how different we all are isn't it - there appears to be no correlation between any of us at all! lol

i just think its weird the number of women who come on a period either during or just after surgery, even if theyre not due.

I came on just after surgery, both times. I'm menopausal now. Periods became regular as clockwork after my kids were born (I have PCOS too) but I'd begun missing them pre-op. Time will tell what's going to happen now. I still think I'm menopausal but periods not showing it yet post-op!

Not sure what's going on with me... I've got a Mirena coil and had no periods since October 2008 but did start having irregular bleeding over he summer and was diagnosed with a large fibroid just before my op. However, having had no bleeding since early August, I've bled non stop since!!! 3 weeks and counting!!!

Before: every 28 days without fail for 3-4 days very heavy
After: Period started day after op, and continued for around 5 weeks, then every 21 days for 7 days but very light until august then every 28 days for 5 days much lighter than pre op xx

i had fibroids dell, that was the reason i ended up with a hysterectomy, i was in my late 40s though, so there was no point trying to do anything about them, it was just easier to remove the lot. apart from wls, its the best thing i ever did. i hope they manage to sort things out for you huni, hugs xx

Pre op = no monthly for 12 years

Post op - started 1 week after surgery and had them every 2 weeks unil 3 months ago and now they are every month. The only negative to my surgery heehe x

Hi Dawny....they've recommended a hysterectomy for me too, I'm happy with.that but not yet unless this gets too troublesome! The fibroid is so big I'd have to have abdominal surgery so I want to wait!!

I have PCOS and from starting my periods aged 11 they were infrequent and irregular, sometimes going for 18 months without one.
However three days after my bypass i had a period and have had one every 29 days since.
How unfair is that ! I now have to deal with PMT, outbreaks of spots, painful breasts and menstrual pain !
