take care x:(

I am not a bypasser but have band, so hello and welcome to the forum.

Its early days, its bound to be a bit up and down and the pureed food won't last forever. What you don't want to do is do your new little tummy any harm.

What are you able to eat right now?

Hi Natasha

welcome to the forum - your now nine days post op, i'd recomend you take it very easy and stick to the advice your consultants given you, you need to let everything insid heal up properly, honestly if you tried to eat something harder it will hurt or your'll end up throwing it back up :D the liquid bit was the worst for me, though i found i really didn't have much of an appitite for food really. Try muller yoghurts, ice lollies and custard, makes an interesting change and wont hurt inside !

Richard :D

Hi Natasha I had my op on 8th so ten days ahead of you. I soon got sick of puree my bariatric nurse said to eat soft foods that were the same thickness as apple sauce and not too much...I found I have tried different soft things but chewed them to death...some things stay down ok....I was able to eat some prawns but had some tonight and chewed them to mush but they made me sick....its a horrible stage to be at and I wish I could wind the clock forward...I am ok with milky coffee, porridge, chilli without any rice (but chewed)....sweet mash is also good with some gravy and some chewed up chicken....not sure if this post will help you but wanted you to know your not alone in this, some people will fly through this stage but I for one dont like it...xx

hello well i have eaten mince with mash which was ok and i kept it down, fishfinger mashed chocolate cookie which tock me 40 mins to eat but it was nice. i tired pasta with tuna and chewed it to death but that made me sick, i will try custard tomorrow i think but i feel great in my self just fed up with puree food. i know it will take time to heal i am being careful but you all know what it is like take care
natasha x

I also have had cauliflower cheese, that is really good as the cauliflower mushes up well in the cheese sauce. I can eat a small piece of cheese if I again chew it well and find if I have a strong tasting one it hits the spot. I have not wanted to eat anything chocolately or sweet. Did enjoy some lollyices though as mentioned by richard...it is trial and error but you have tried much harder stuff than me lol...I worry in case I damage my insides and they never get better so it deters me...xx

Hi Natasha,

Sorry you are having a hard time with the purees. It is a struggle! But you will be clear of it soon. It is an important transition that can't be skipped. I have a thread that I started with some yummy puree recipes here:

http://www.minimins.com/surgical-weight-loss/66935-food-puree-stage-recipes.html

They might give you some options. Good luck and BTW, stay away from cookies!!! You don't want to dump at this early stage. High sugar foods are really hard so early post-op. Give it time;)

hi natasha welcome to minis. it's quite normal to have ups and downs post op and the puree stage was one of the hardest for me too. it does get easier hun just try to keep ur chin up x

Welcome Natasha Most of the postings I read here seem to indicate a baby food (pureed to mush type diet). But I think sticking to your consultant's advice is probably the safest thing to do.

I am pre-op so I am no way an 'expert'; that's why I'm in the 'listen to your surgeon/team' camp!

Hi there Natasha... I had my surgery the day after you had yours so it would be nice to share our experiences as we had our surgeries at the same time.

I feel lucky after reading your experience as so far I've had no difficulties with any of the foods I've eaten. The problem I am having is actually remembering to eat as I have n't felt hungry at all. This is a totally new concept to me as prior to my surgery i used to think about food all the time, if I was n't eating rubbish I was planning what I was going to eat next.

So far I've tried Mashed potato with some cheese grated into it, swede and carrot mash, Cupasoups, mushypeas (just 3 table spoons) low fat smooth yoghurts, milk, porridge with cooked apples, horlicks made with milk, coffee, juice (tiny sips at a time), strawberry and bannana smoothie (just enough for 3 or 4 mouthfuls)

Hope that we can support each other through this time as we are both at the same stages.

Have you had your staples removed yet?

Alia xxx

I had my done at St James in Leeds by Mr Pollard, an amazing man, can't thank him enough for what he's done for me.

I'm glad your doing better today, I guess as every one is saying, its trial and error, just takes time to know what suits you and what does nt.

I've been drinking alot of soups, only half a mug at a time and taking it slowly but it is at least something i know I know I can have without it upsetting me.

Long may your good days last

It amaizes me the different advice people are given post op for their diets. I was told 2 weeks fluids (smooth soups, milk ,yogurt etc) then 2 weeks pureed (apple sauce consistancy) then Mush and once tolorating a wide range of foods to slowly introduce more normal consistancy. But the most important thing is to have high protein content to aid healing.
But even now 3weeks 3 days post op i wouldnt dare try a ritz cracker firstly because i would be scared it swelled and caused discomfort but secondly because its got no useful nutritional content.
I appriciate we are all given different advice but i think once you have undergone this surgery your focuse has to be healthy eating for life to make sure you are the fittest you can be.
dont mean to sound harsh or anything but i just feel that for pre Wls people seeking advice they need to know its not really an option.

Glad you had a good experience but I do agree with Hopelesscase. It is really important that everything you consume in the early days has nutritional value, with so little going in, everything has got to count. By eating valueless food, it takes up the space you might have had for a bit more protein which will help you heal & loose weight faster. Just because you can eat something doesn't mean you should is all I am saying.

Okay, lecture over. Don't mean to be too pushy, I just want everyone to have good success and be healthy.;)

Whilst I understand what is being said it takes time to change habits of a lifetime, the first time someone eats something they should not have they will feel the effects and that is to educate us that things have got to change with what we eat. I started a thread about people eating things they should not of done after surgery and was surprised so many owned up to doing so me included...we have to learn and the only way of learning this is with the side affects it causes, everyone is different and has to be allowed to do what they think is best with their bodies not all of us can cook nice things and sometimes when your body wants a tiny taste of something you will have it, I licked a dorito before not so long ago I would have sat and ate the full very large bag....we will get there just sometimes it feels that some know better than others when really we are all learning and all very different so lets go easy on our sisters....xx

:wave_cry:point taken. It is not my place to tell someone not to eat something:eek:. I was just trying to help, it was only out of concern that I said something. I really hope that I did not offend anyone or make anyone feel bad:confused:. That was not what I set out to do.

CG is right that we all have to learn in our own way not by the force of others will. Here's to learning, looks like I need to do some...;)

Hey Nic I was not getting at anyone and sorry if I made you feel you were wrong, we can all be sinners at some stage or another I would not want someone to feel rotten if they ate something post op because someone else would not eat it....to err is human to forgive is devine I would never upset you chick....((hug))...xx
