Goodness me please tell me the pre op diet gets easier....

I started last night and its almost had me in tears already when DH and the kids were having southern coated chicken for tea a little while ago

Not hungry just feeling sorry for myself and it feels SO odd not to be able to just grab something and eat it :D

I heard it mentioned after day 3 its much easier due to ketosis, I have done Atkins, so assuming its a bit like this?

oooooo not sure sweetpea, but just wanted to say hang in there xx

Hey Dell, yes it does get a bit easier after day 3 I promise you hon! I have found it hard when OH & daughter are eating...& they haven't helped either, asking me what's for tea, I mean for goodness sake as if I'm going to cook for them! I pre-warned them they would have to fend for themselves (I even spent an entire day last Saturday cooking & freezing meals for them while I was on day 5), so what I do now is actually remove myself from the vicinity until they have finished...does help a bit! I am now day 12...I have been starvin' marvin' the last couple of days but am still being positively virtuous, purely because I know I only have a couple of days left! You can do it; plenty of fluids & try to stay out of the kitchen! xxx

Oh Hun, it does get easier. Just focus on the end goal of having that wonderfully shrunken liver ready for your operation.

I was way too scared to fall off the rails during my pre-op diet. I spent a fortune on my surgery and no way was my liver going to be too big!

Focus, focus, focus and drink loads.

Oh also put the children on a mega healthy diet for the next 2 weeks, I did that to mine! My other half just cooked them burgers for tea and I've never seen them tuck in so quickly! :8855:

It gets better! I even did mine whilst at a wedding and away for a few days with the family! So we were eating out in restaurants and I was watching my 3 tuck into gargantuan Sunday dinners whilst I ate cuppa-soup or had a milky coffee.
What kept me going:
* a good sense of humour - I laughed at it/myself frequently because it WAS quite funny!:D
* being as inventive as possible with what little I was allowed pre-op.
* knowing it was strictly 'time-limited' (I did 10 days) and the last 'diet' I'd ever go on!
* the prize at the end! The wait for surgery was 18 months and I KNEW it would change my life! (which it already has!)

And I promise it does get better after Day 3, although also a tad boring towards the end!

Hi Dell... it will be like Atkins without the Atkins flu, by day 3 you should be in ketosis & not worried about family dinners. xxx

Charis is right it does get boring, i'm on day 7 & starting to go a little insane!! I've had 2 wobbles i will be totally honest one of them involved a bit of cheese & the other 1 a biscuit  yes i was annoyed with myself but you just have to carry on, good luck ;)

Yup it gets easier - not sure about ketosis . . I feel the amount of milk I am drinking along with the soup and water just fills me up. In fact my stomach feels like a distended resevoir most of the time. My lot are about to eat fish and chips:cry:but I am going to go upstairs snuggle in the duvet and watch a dvd!!!

Like simplylucy I have forked out a small fortune for this op so really dont want to c**k it up!!!

lol, I've been going to bed really early too (well, early for me anyway), but I've been reading instead...something to keep me occupied, plus I'm really cold so I have been nice & toasty with the electric blanket on (not allowed the heating on yet, until at least the clocks go back...grrrr, northerner for a hubby!)

Angie im the same been in bed really early. And im starting to feel cold.

I dont think im drinking enough with my 2 pints of milk i think im prob only drinking about a pint of water. with that and the yogurts oh and sugar free jelly its filling me up.

But this is only my 4th day....

Kelly thanks chick, its a PITA, but I am sure I will look back and wonder what I was moaning about LOL
Angie you don't have long at ALL now! That's fab, the end is in sight :)
Lucy, you are so right, mine is NHS but its been a 2.5 year wait for it! Hope you are feeling good [post op :)
Charis thats amazing! Not sure how I would cope with that....I feel like I have only just realised how much food is a part of my life!
Ditzee you are only just post op too, so I feel inspired now! Thanks :)
Em and Hsmel - so many of you almost there! Keep it up girls, we CAN DO IT!!
Donna your op is the day before mine, but I think I started my diet a day late oops! I don't THINK it will matter...its so hard isn't it!

Well, I feel a bit better, my diet is cuppasoup and sugar free jelly and clear liquids. Am craving a cup of tea more than anything as all I can taste is sweeteners in my mouth! Gotta be worth it tho, hasn't it. I did a meal plan for my shopping list for the rest of the family tonight and ticking off the days like that made it seem closer than it did!

Thanks all for the support :)

Im day 6 now and Ive got 8 more to go.......I always knew I enjoyed my food but never realised how much until this week!! Its sooo hard not eating, not the hunger, though that is bad but just the not being able to eat anything. I long for something to chew on and Im missing eating something hot, the only hot thing apart from brews is oxo or cup-a-soup (slim) Every day is one day nearer though and I try and look at the end resut and how important it is to me :D X

just wanted to wish you luck hun... you can do this! itl be worth it in the end xx

Jacqui aren't you having any fruit? you could munch on an apple?

OMG don't mention apples, I would kill for one lol!!! Might try some black tea actually......DH drinks some poncey stuff that is meant to be drunk black....sheesh we really are Jack Sprat and his wife lol!!

Oh yea, forgot my fruit, I usually have a banana mid day or in the smoothie :D and an apple later on, Im not really a fruit lover but I have enjoyed the simple fact that I can chew it lol :D X

Hi there,

It does get easier I was slightly histerical on day two but the rest of the time has flown by and i cant beleive I am nearly done now. My family have not helped me at all. I have been cooking for them all week and today they have had a chippy (I went to bed also), the kids keep offering me various treats and then going "oh sorry mum" and my husband had a massive takeaway after the pub on Saturday. Although he did eat it in his van, so i suppose he was trying!!!!! still love them all though.

Oh Leesh I feel very lucky that my family have been so good then! That must be SO hard! i am really struggling now, this very minute, but I am sure it will pass! The very best of luck for tomorrow :) X

Im feeling you there Dell lol, it is really hard! I have been struggling too, sometimes much worse than others! Ive been on it since last Monday and havnt cheated so if I can do it you can too, we have to look at the end goal..........surgery will be here soon! X
