gp called hosp today an told me that they recieved my psych reports last friday an as all ok was put on list then, and surgery must be within 18 weeks[sept 11th] but this strikes me as a play with numbers game as my original refferal went to them augusr2008. saw shaw somers feb 12th and he okayed me for bypass .psych appt april 24th. does this strike anyone else as list fiddling.:sigh::doh:

The 18 week rule doesn't apply to bariatrics - maybe they are making the most of the dates to get more time, but they have 5 surgeons now, working most days, if they could do it sooner I am sure they would. even if you have to wait a bit longer it is well worth the wait to be seen by a great surgeon, team and hospital with specialist bariatric care in a dedicated ward - they are even doing ops at their other private hospitals in order to get the list down - not sure they could do much more really, AND they have closed their list until they have caught up.

The alternative (like I did first time round) was to be seen within the 18 weeks, never meet my surgeon and have crap aftercare. I know which I would rather have now.

Try not to think about list 'fiddling', whilst I am sure you are keen for your op, they will see you. Try to feel blessed that you will be in wonderful hands, and be well looked after.

Ok, i was referred March 08, initial appoint with Shaw Somers 28th August, actual surgery date 1st April 09. It will come in time i promise you then you will wonder why you were panicking, trust me i rang in previous to my date about 5 times so i know about panicking and getting stressed out. xx

i know you are both right and im sorry to moan but i just feel like my life on hold at mo .it took ages to pluck up courage before i asked gp so that just adds to my feeling of a long wait .but i do know i am very lucky to be on list at chichester and so glad i got there before they closed list.promise i will try to be positive and please put me in my place if i whinge again sorry:sign0007:

You winge away girl! TS and BF are both right - you will get there but I think we all know how it feels to feel that our lives are "on hold" until the life changing event actually happens.

There is a lot of list fiddling by managers in the NHS - I have a lot of family who work for NHS and I read a lot of medical blogs and it really p***es the medics off that the managers only care about meeting Govt. "targets" while the Docs and Nurses only care about what they should be caring about - the patients.

Good luck to you x

Whinge, moan, scream, shout, do what ever you want if it makes you feel better. I know its a long waiting game but you will get there. i felt like I had been cheated out of months for my op. I saw my surgeon in dec 08 and I still have'nt had mine (hopefully fingers crossed its on monday). There were other peeps who did'nt see him till march 09 and have already had theirs which makes you wonder. Keep on their case and don't let them lose you in the system. Keep reminding them that you're here lol

dear jenni an gaynor thankyou was starting to feel like a naughty schoolgirl being told off.dont mean any of it seriosly just think being able to moan to those of you who have been there saves me from driving hubby to murder:)

Hi debbie. Yes I agree the waiting is difficult but remember you are going to be seen and you will have the surgery. Take the time to research all there is to know about the bypass (and try not to panic when you read something that freaks you out as I have done!!). One thing that I've felt has helped me is getting my GP to give me Reductil in the short term to help me lose a bit of weight so I can get around more easily. I've lost about 12 pounds so far which has really helped with the mobility, but oddly enough, its also helped psychologically cos I am viewing food completely differently now. I only eat when I am hungry (as opposed to 'because it's there/Eastenders time etc') and food that I've eaten in the past now do not agree with me. I had some nuts the other night and yesterday morning suffered with diahorrhea and vomiting. So nuts are now a no-no for me. Even chocolate is not as appealing as it used to be!! All good preparation for the bypass as far as I'm concerned! Just be thankful you got on the list before they closed it. St Richards has a very good reputation so the wait will be worth it. Keep positive. All the best. Julie x
