Hair loss !

I have a band and I've had some hair loss I've had my very long hair cut into a short bob. To be honest it was blocking my Hoover! But since it's been cut and I've been more religious with vitamins it's stopped... I've also had my arms waxed for years and it's fallen out off them too don't be too concerned it slows down xx

Hi. I own a health food shop & please ignore the advice holland & barret have given you about vitamin b1. It will have very little effect on hair loss. Biotin is the vitamin you need.
However i suspect that anyone with hair loss would benefit more with a good quality hair vit which will supply you with a range of vitamins & minerals needed for hair growth. You may also want to try the mineral silicia
Hope that helps ladies

I worried about that too but no you want lose it all ;). tbh nobody apart from me and my hairdresser really noticed it. X
Aww thanks Frances, that is reassuring. I am okay one day and so focussed then the last couple of days I have gone downhill again and having all these doubts.

I have researched til I am blue in the face and think it may be a case of overkill, all i can see through all the comments are the issues people are having and not the positives that it is a better healthier way of life.

I am sick of dieting and thinking of food! Hoping that will change after op but worried on casae i miss food too much!! Going mental lol xx

Hi Joanne, I just want to reassure you by saying that having my bypass was the best decision that I have ever made. I have lost over four and a half stones in less than four months - life is so much easier. I can walk for miles, have a lot more energy and heaps more confidence.

I was on the diet treadmill for years and am so pleased to leave it behind me - there are some things that I cannot eat but nowhere near as many as I thought and I don't miss anything.

The positives far out weigh the negatives :) x x

I do not wish to upset anyone but it was a specialist nurse from my hospital that advised me to try the b1 for my hair from Holland and barrett not the shop trying to sell me anything.

Thank you Pink lady, this is really helpful. I have been dieting for years too. my mobility is not bad and it doesnt help that ppl tell me that i dont look bad the size i am. Apparently i carry it well!!

That's exactly what everyone used to say to me !!! But amazingly those same people now say how fantastic I look, and how much better ! ;)

If only we could choose where we loose it from think most ladies would like to hand up ther razors wax kits and immac for some time.... Ho hum

I used to get the same comments at 27&half stone... Yeahhhh right. Ok maybe I hid my true size well but there was no getting away from it I was huuuuge. One of the best decisions I ever made in my life was to get my bypass..well sort of as the docs made that decision for me really but I certainly wasn't arguing with them :p. I have lost well over 12st since January last year and am so much better for it!
As for constantly having to think about food and what I put in my mouth well I am sorry to disappoint you there but that's the hardest bit as that comes part and parcel with the bypass ;). Would I change anything?? Yep ...I would have bloody well pushed harder five years ago to get my bypass. Loving it!

God if I had a £ for every person that said the same to me ..... Well let's just say, we could go on a 1St class caribbean cruise!
Or ....there's nothing wrong with you..you're meant to be a bit on the larger side of life...etc.

If YOU know, then YOU know.

I applaud anyone who looks obesity in the face & tells it... nah, not me! Whether you diet or seek alternative methods because you have failed repeatedly throughout life OR for you younger peeps, don't have to face the repeated struggles us more 'matures' have - again I applaud you.

I don't know anyone who has not benefitted from weight loss, obv FEW stories that have difficulties attached, but the majority out weighs it.

You're doing a fab, all of you :)

I use biotin, 12 weeks out and hair is still OK. I'm sure it will start dropping out soon as it did when I was stressed before. I am really concious about hair loss and have researched wigs/hair pieces. I know it seems extreme but I literally hide behind my hair and will do anything to keep hold of it even if its not my own!

Hi Clare,

just noticed you have just had your surgery. Hope you are doing okay?

Thnaks for the comment xx

All of the b vitamins have a roll to play in healthy hair as they all do for your immune system and other functions. Vitamin a, c & e also play a role & deficiency in any of these vitamins could result in hair loss. Vit b7 biotin is the main b vitamin that will promote hair growth. It is the main ingredient in virtually all hair skin & nail supplements. I've seen so many women benefit from taking biotin.
Google it if you don't believe me!

My hair started falling out at 18 weeks out. I have taken hair, skin and nail supplements since about 12 weeks post op, they certainly dont stop it! But my loss has never been bad, not really noticeable except to me. I never had the big clumps that people describe, just heavy shedding. I'll be a year out soon, and I've noticed over the last month that the loss has stopped. So its only lasted 7-8 months for me.

Just as an update for everyone who gave me advice about my hair loss on this thread, I have now been prescribed a effervescent zinc supplement to take three times a day now - hopefully this will help :)

Hi pink this is the same zinc as me the hospital said to try the vit b1 for my hair and it really has worked I have never had thick hair but good grief what a difference a month makes you have nothing to lose as I said before I was told to get it at Holland and Barrett if you take too much your body wee's it out.
