Just thought I would introduce myself, My name is Kaz from Cornwall, I had the sleeve done on thursday 13th June so still tender and early days!

Anyone else had this done, any advice would be appreciated :)

Many Thanks
Kaz

Hie Wolf
I had my sleeve done on the same day. It's been a slow recovery immediately after surgery but I've been getting better daily. I'm now at home, still a bit tender, on painkillers but well on my way to recovery. How are you getting on with the liquid diet? I've not managed to drink 2ltrs yet.

Hi Kaz

Welcome! You Kai and I are all June 13th sleeve triplets!

I got home last night and am ok but tired.

Come chat with us on the June 2013 thread I started on the sleeve section and we can be each others' cheerleaders!

Hi Guys
Nice to know I'm not the only one :)
I am glad I went thru all this however the only thing I didnt like was the pain I experienced when coming round from being put out! apparently they fill you with lots of gas which stays in your body for up to a week! My goodness the pain was awful, in my shoulders and chest, I was sat up once I came too and i was asked to try and burp etc....
They also found a Hiatus Hernia which obviously had to be repaired before sleeve was done.
My wounds are a little tender just worried about over doing the fluid, Ive had some chicken stock today which was yummy and very tasty, amongst a coffee and some sugar free squash oh and some crusha milk.
as feel weak and no energy!

Yep, also lacking in energy!

I'm struggling with anything hot (soup, tea, etc) as it goes cold before I can drink it :(

Hot drinks going col, that happened a lot when I was in hospital. Every time I asked for a cup of tea I only managed half a cup. I'm using a flask at home, that seems to work.

Hi hun :) welcome to the forum. Congrats on having your surgery. I had my sleeve on 24th May and I had the same as you - a hiatus hernia. Have a speedy recovery, take care xx

Hi Kaz,

There seem to be quite a few people on here who have had their surgery recently. I had my sleeve last Monday (10th) and can sympathise with you regarding trapped wind, I had it under my rib cage and up my back between my shoulder blades. It does go and the discomfort gets less and less by the day.

I still can't get the quantities down that I should and find that after I have eaten have no room for additional liquids.

Currently I'm having 150ml size meals: Slimfast for breakfast, same again mid morning, fresh soup for lunch, Slimfast mid afternoon, fresh soup for dinner and finally 150ml of Horlicks or Ovaltine for Supper.

I've spoken to my providers councilor who I saw before my op and they say that I'm doing OK on that and just try to have extra sips of fluid when I can.

Good luck with your new sleeve and this place is full of really kind people who will always give good advice when you need it.

I was also sleeved last Monday,I have tried ice cream and sugar free jelly, not sure about the jelly, still plenty of wind, bruising & some pain, longing to sleep on my side, counting down another two weeks of fluids, but staying positive, especially as I was scheduled for a bypass originally

Thanks guys! I'm already feeling a bit better knowing that there are other people in the same situation!
It seems very early days at the mo and keep thinking ahead.
Tonight I had some home-made chicken soup managed half a cup it was yummy sipped it gently!
Yeah the trapped wind is the nightmare especially between the shoulders and neck! can take up to a week to disperse, I'm burping a lot too everytime I get up and move around! I guess that's the wind.

I've seen ovaltine mentioned a few times I didn't know we could drink this is this in the first 4 weeks of ops?
and also slim fast??

I'm also having children's chewable multi-vitamins x2 a day?

I just feel exhausted

Thanks for all your replies its very much cheered me up this afternoon :D

Kaz,

My surgeon gave me a Post Op set of diet sheets, in this they specifically mention Slimfast ready made drinks, Ovaltine & Horlicks made with semi skimmed milk.

With regards to Vitamins then again his options for the first six weeks if you want them were: Centrum chewable, Bassett's chewable, Boots own brand chewable or Forceval soluble. Normal tablets can be taken after 6 weeks.

Please bear in mind though these are my surgeons choices, others may have a different idea and if in doubt you should speak to them first.

Hi Kaz I ha sleeve on 7th May. It gets better really soon, I am now eating soft stuff ie cottage pie, pasta, scramble egg etc. I've lost 24lb since op so hang on in there its worth it!!! :)

Hiya Kaz! I'm a sleever too, and same as madcatwoman had my sleeve 7th of May! The wind pain is awful but mine had completely gone by a week! Tomorrow is my 6 week mark and I can eat any thing :s argh! Quite scared to try crunchy foods but its all part of the journey :) this last 6 weeks has flew over and I feel totally normal now! Before you know it you will be at the same place with a great weight loss to show for it! I've lost 4 stone since my seminar in January, 25lb since op and am feeling fab!! Xx

Morning everyone
Thanks again for your replies each day is getting better :) fingers crossed! today felt a little nausea but seemed to go once I took my medication.

Whilst typing this I am going thru half a pint of skimmed milk with a tad of crusha in it to make it taste better than the normal milk!

I feel a bit more with it today (day 4 post op) I've managed to put jeans on today as my stomach was swollen so felt uncomfortable in jeans so must be going down :D

Lets see what day 4 brings :D

Have a good day all
