Hi

Do I need to avoid fizzy drinks? It was previously thought that consuming fizzy drinks would cause the small 'holding pouch' to stretch, thereby leading to potential complications such as band slippage. Some surgeons still believe this is the case, others do not. We consider there to be little risk in consuming fizzy drinks, providing you follow the following guidelines: o You may consume 'diet' or 'sugar-free' fizzy drinks occasionally - once or twice a week. o You must sip fizzy drinks slowly; never gulp - this could cause the drink to be held above the band for too long, potentially disturbing the sensitivity of the stomach above the band, reducing the band's ability to reduce your appetite and therefore portion size. o If you feel any discomfort from consuming a fizzy drink, you should stop and avoid fizzy drinks permanently.

Well a better day today 700 cals sadly no champers :( ! Can't wait to hear what band fill does to you as mine isn't until 29th x

My team told me to avoid fizzy drinks more because of the mental restraint. They believe it encourages you to start allowing sugary drinks I.e. empty calories into your diet. For me personally I hate diet fizzy drinks so it's full fat or nothing at all.
In terms of discomfort I haven't had any issues with drinking coke, and my go to drink is fizzy water. What I did find was, when my band was on the tight side fizzy drinks gave me acid reflux.

Just recieved a phone call from THG saying that my fill on Friday 23rd can't go ahead as they have a nurse off sick...
Nearly cried.. Untill she said I can have my fill on Tuesday coming instead.. OMG.. (4 weeks follow op) I got the next three days at work 12 hour days then fill Tuesday, work again Wednesday.. Then off Thursday Friday, back in sat, sun.. All on fluids and mushy again.. If I haven't lost a few pound by the end of that week there's something wrong..!

No time to go onto solids.. Although have started eating crackers, and appear to have no restriction.

I feel as excited for this as I did my op, I suppose this is the real beginning.. All in all feeling ready but nervous.. :)

Oh loo that is great !! I have to wait until 29th :( I wish it was closer as I need it! Can't wait to know how it feels x

Hello there you lot hope you all ok today

been reading through this thread and am just wondering what your providor guidance was for how long mushy etc.

I was with THG and did 2 weeks liquid, 2 week mushy post op.

Noticing some foods which maybe shouldn't be eaten yet, as in cake, crackers etc.

Not wanting to lecture but this soon after op I was told to be strict as could damage the band while stomach heals and this was why rules are so strict. Don't want you to do any damage.

For mushy stage I was having scrambled egg, beans, mash potato or veg, fish in white sauce things like that, yogurts and mousse.

Maybe guidance has changed or I can't work dates out and you are further in your journey.

Good luck x x

louloumoo

just seen on another thread your fill brought forward and thats why you on crackers, sorry x x

Anything that can be mashed down with a fork is fine in the two week mushy stage:). a small weigtwatchers cake with a bit of low fat custard is perfectly acceptable :)

I think as a general rule we have all been pretty good at following our providers instruction.. Most can do it 100% some may not find it so easy.. We have all paid privately so I don't think we would willingly be destructive.
So yer fill in three days... So glad as so need to get on track.
I'm loving the school holidays and the fact
That I have has loads of AL, but part of me wants the kids back at school and me back to full time work and that way with the help of a fill or two I can get into some sort of routine... I need it, I need to plan my days off better..
Prior band when I was feeling sorry for myself I would spent my day off on the sofa with food!!

So I'm really looking forward to a future that isn't controlled by eating!!

Really hope Julie can get her fill sooner, it's a long time to have to weight..
We're do u live Julie?

I live in Lincoln so go to Nottingham for follow up ! They only come to clinic every 2 weeks so no chance of getting it earlier ! I need to get back on track too! I am so excited for you and Emma :)

So excited for my friend who had her band op cancelled last week! She has been banded today and is now sleeping it off :)

Really enjoyed reading the 3 musketeers posts. Well done ladies :) I'm a bit further on than you guys - just had 3rd fill and now at 8mls. Def have restriction now. Have lost almost 2 stones and finding it much easier to control portion sizes and eat the proper food. For me, my new eating habits feel normal now and I wonder how I managed to eat so much before. Good luck x

Hi Bazlol

That's good to hear that it's working well for you, gives us hope :) I ate some crackers today at about midday and still stuffed! I'm interested to see how much fill I will get as I had 4 put in at op time, I'm getting a bit of restriction but could still eat whacking great portions if I wanted to. Well done on losing 2 stone , great achievement :)

Thanks bazlol.. It's great to find people so close to your own experience and be able to share.. In real life I know no one who has been thought anything like this.. In fact I think most people think its a joke, and think I have done it for complete vanity!! But that's just a welcome side effect.. :)
Great to hear its working so well for u and great weight loss all ready.. It was the best decision of my life.. But dont tell the hubby as I think he believes it was marrying him!!
