How does the hospital determine........

......Whether you're given the Pre-op milk diet, or the very low fat diet?

I hate milk with a passion, I always have done, so am a bit apprehensive in that respect! Although I like yogurts.

Do you think I would get a say in which one I get?

Thanks xx

I hate milk too Shadylawns, I am going to see the dietician on Thursday, so if you don't get an answer before then, I'll let you know what they say :)

I really hope they don't make us drink milk :(

I'm NHS and I had a choice of 4 maybe 5.

You're right, it's only ten days. I can take milk on cereal, but can't just drink it neat, so to speak! It makes me gag it up (sorry, tmi!). I guess if it's the best option, then I'd try and find something to put in it. I don't do tea or coffee either, just blummin' awkward, me! My son reckons I should have some of his protein shake stuff that he has for the gym!

I just done without it. Hate the stuff by its self :)
Good luck

I was not given a choice I had to do the low fat one. Although I don't necessarily advocate this for others, I did do the milk diet for a few days each week as I was struggling with the low fat one. After all your liver does not know which diet you are following and the team cannot tell as they all work (if of course you follow a recognised liver shrinking diet)

I am sure though if you explained about milk they would agree to something else anyway.

I had to do it twice, first time to lose 5% of body weight and by the second time before the op, I was unable to do milk so they gave me low fat version.

Hi I can't bearing so did the low calorie diet. It was totally fine and I wasn't hungry. I was stressed thinking about having to do the milk diet but there is an alternative.

I'm hoping I can do a low cal diet as I feel sick when I eat too much dairy. I have been trying to increase my tolerance but it isn't really working.

Hi Shadylawns, just to let you know I was open and honest with the dietician and told her how ill milk makes me feel and she was totally fine with it - I'm going to be doing the high protein low carb diet. She also advised it might be worth me trying lactose free milk. xx

In my NHS hospital, I was also given a few choices of diet, which ever you can live with Best. Hope you can choose something else except milk.
