How long did you stay in hospital for?

I was told I'd be in for 3-4 days. x

yes zns i believe thats right, cause you go in early on day of op x

Overnight for me hun x

keyhole bypass, stayed in 2 nights post op, pain level 0-2 out of 10

hi all had open surgery went in thursday am had op thurday pm came home sunday. Mr slater at st richards.

This is a bit too much of a subjective question to ask; everyone is going to recover at a different pace. I think if you expect to be in a minimum of one night and a maximim of a week you'll likely be right in the very vast majority of cases.

Regards, Ade.

Wow that was quick. Can I ask how painful it was afterwards at home? 0-10 (10 been labour pains!) lol x

I didn't take any pain relief misscharlie. My tummy felt very alien as i was very aware of every part of it, internal bruising i guess. I would say it was more uncomfortable than painful but then i have quite a good threshold for pain :) I will say it was good to feel uncomfortable at home than it was to be uncomfortable in hospital.

The wind pain was the worst, in all honesty if pain relief could have helped with that i'd have took it.

Best advice i can give you is get up and get moving as soon as possible, just up and down to the loo is good. I'm quite stubborn so did force myself to do things such as get myself out of bed on the first night, sleep on my side 3 days out as i couldn't sleep on my back as my bum got numb...

Each day is better than the one before, just remember it does get better and although tired now and still needing a senior i feel on top of the world xxx

my hospital told me 2-3 nights and after the second night when they said i was doing okay they asked if i felt ready to go home. I couldn't get out of there fast enough as i was on a general ward and the woman next to me had dementia so it was nice to get home and get some proper sleep !

Jackie as a bander you should be a day case! Mells had a band after initially expecting a bypass and i believe she was out the same day! x

Hey Patsy i bet you're getting excited now :) :) xx

Hi, ive got to go in on the sunday and operation on the monday, does that mean i will be done first thing in the morning and then home the next day (tues) x

Jackie, first off don't be surprised if there's no bed for you on the Sunday. Quite a few of us go in for 7 on the day of ops because of this.....

Usually banders get kicked out the same day as their surgery, so be forewarned! Don't forget whoever collects you to bring a pillow for you to hold against your tum when driving home! I forgot to ask my husband and felt every turn in the road even though my friend drove like she was driving Miss Daisy...

If you're on Patsy's facebook you can find me and add me if you like, be nice to chat x

Agree with the comment about everybody being different. I was in for 2 nights and felt fine when I was discharged, but with hindsight I wasn't ready then and ended up being readmitted 2 days later severely dehydrated, nausea and dizzyness so bad I felt constantly sick, and with pneumonia, so was in for another week!

Make sure you are honest about how you are feeling, and make sure you drink plenty.

Good luck

i had my bypass at salford royal, under mr ammori, went in 7am on friday, had op at 8.30am. went home on sunday evening. pain about 2-3 out of 10. more discomfort than pain, but felt 'bruised' for a couple of weeks.
dawny

Im amazed at all the people who's pain level was only 2 or 3. Mine was about 7! Theres no way I could have gone home the day after surgery. I could barely get out of bed. Perhaps Im a wimp.

If there's no bed will they send me home and go bak monday morning, dont want my husband to drop me off and go and then he's gotta come bak for me, is he best to wait x
