How long until you keep wounds dry?

Hey there

I had laprascopic surgery on Tuesday, went home on Friday but I'm confused with the discharge notification.

On the note it says I should keep the wounds clean and dry for 10/7.......what does 10/7 mean? 10 weeks and 7 days? 10 days and 7 hours?

Ho w soon were you able to shower or have a bath (i've been having flannel washes.)

hmmmm, not sure. I was having showers virtually from day 1 and just changing the dressings and keeping the wounds dry after. It was 10 days when I had the staples out.

That means 10 days.

I was allowed a shower on the second day - just covered the wounds with little dressings.

i had showers from the next day - i avoided soaking the stitches and i just dried my them with the hair drier lol x

I had waterproof dressings so could shower anytime. You can ask for a wound check at your gp surgery and ask them to put waterproofs on.

I was showering the next day, my wounds were never covered I didn't even think about keeping them dry I didn't have any outside stitches all glued

I examined my dressings & realised they were infact waterproof so I had a lovely shower this morning feel much better for it too!

Umm. Oops. I don't have any dressings, and been showering every day. I'm 8 days post-op.

Hi Zarafa, I was told to keep the wounds dry, so they heal over... the dressings came off after a few days... since you've had a little blood Zarafa, you do need a wound check....

Seems like different areas have differing ideas and different dressings too...

When is your 10 day check up at the hospital?? They will examine your wounds and take out the staples normally.

It's funny, I posted here and was thinking ooh, I'm so badass, no dressings. BAM, surgery site bleeds.

My 10 day check up is on Tuesday, and Shelbell reassured me re: the bleeding, so hopefully it's nothing to worry about. I'm gonna get my GP to have a look at it first thing in the morning

They didn't give me spare dressings either but as mine came off when I showered I went and bought new dressings at the pharmacy. Had them on till the day the staples came out.
Hope the bleeding has stopped now. You'll be fine I'm sure xx

Doctor had a look at it, it's fine. It's dried up since last night. I should also be ok to have staples out tomorrow

Yay! All is good.
You'll feel much better once they're out, it's sort of liberating (the staples I mean). I used to worry that I would get my clothes caught on them.
