How to get a band fitted on nhs?

Saraian, if the information from BOSPA is accurate

Cambridgeshire BMI over 40 with type 2 diabetes and/or severe sleep apnoea (hypertension is not an allowable comorbidity for surgery), are aged 18-60 and who have been receiving intensive obesity management of at least 6 months.

You may need to fight your corner some, as they want sleep ap/diabetes. It is worth seeing your GP though as the information could be inaccurate.

If im told down the line that i can have a op i wont have anymore kids. Ive got 2. im happy with that.

You can have kids after the op, you might just be asked to wait for 12 months to allow your body time to heal and adjust to the band. It's more so with the bypass, as the band can be adjusted to allow more nutrition through.

Hi
I have been referred but as part o my PCT I have a 6 month weight management course to be on before I get to see a surgeon and go through the tests.
I have been on the diet drugs reductil and xenical and have been on many diets ww, sw starvation etc... I have been overweight for a log time probably since being 8, most of my weight has come on though in the past 8 years since having my first child and giving up work and having my two other children. I am 5ft5 and wreight just under 19 stone. I cannot wait to have a bdn fitted althogh I am scared stiff, but am looking forward to a new life and new goals.
Cant wait to go swimming with my kids is one.
My kids are 6, 4 and 13 months, I want this done NOW before they get any older, I want to enjoy every minute and wish I woul have approched my GP years ago if I had then I would not have wasted years being fat.
Good luck with whatever you decide xx

A thought I did have - I am not sure if your GP would refer you right now if you a trying for a baby, anyone know if this would affect Saraian's chances?

Thanks Dumplin - I guess I got a little defensive this morning, not everyone is very positive about WLS so I'm sorry for jumping on you! No hard feelings, I hope. P.S. Isn't grandmotherhood the very best?
Lxx

Hi Lizziebee, of course no hard feelings - and yes, couldn't agree more, grandmotherhood is absolutely the best!! I want to be around for as long as poss for my little grandson. I'm fully supportive of WLS and my reasons for wanting a band mirror yours but I'm running out of time due to my age. Going to use my spare time this week to look up the PCT criteria in my area and present as good a case as possible to my GP next week. You have your funding, well done! - do you know when your op is?

ps, has anyone dealt with Mid Essex PCT re WLS, would love to hear your comments.

No idea about the op date yet. Having jumped through the funding hoop, I am now waiting for an appointment at the hospital that I was referred to for suitability assessment... then I may get an idea of when the op might be. The PCT have approved the funding for a 6 month period - so I imagine the op will be between now and July.
Good luck with your GP, Dumplin - may s/he be as supportive as mine was.
