is it normal after a bypass to still feel hungry ?, im still on the pureed food but have felt hungry the last couple of days

I don't no if its normal, alot of people say they arent hungry anymore after a bypass but I was hungry alot till about wk 5/6 when I starting eating proper food not mashed or puread. Now am easily filled on small amounts xx

thanks ,i wasnt sure whether to try eat more ,but im already eating 4-6 small meals a day like i was told too and thats hard trying to do that

I'm pre-op but have noticed others saying they felt hungry - stick with it hun and I hope it passes soon x

are u full from ur meals? if not maybe try an extra 1 or 2 teaspoons more that little bit can make a huge difference. but it definately gets easier when u can eat proper food xx

I get hungry if I haven't eaten for hours. I am lucky to get 3 meals in a day let alone 5-6. The hunger I get is feeling sick tummy pain and irritable I know I shouldn't get to this point but I find it had to get foods in.

It was like this for me too - the first 4 weeks or so i was hungry quite a lot - now i am just not interested in food at all - perhaps because the choice is limited but i do not get hungry - trouble is when you are not hungry and you eat - its hard to know when you are actually full up

Its probably a mix of head hunger and being on the pureed food, i found the more protein i pureed the longer i felt sated for. Ive just bought some protein whey powder which you make with milk or water and that really fills me up. Its also 20g of protein every 200ml serving. You could give it a go. Good Luck anyway

i havent felt hungry at all, in fact food doesnt bother me i forget that im supposed to eat. im week 5 post op now. i always fort it was common not to feel hungry. protein always fills me up quicker than carbs so try a high protein pureed meal like salmon, mash and parsley sauce yum :)

I 'feel' hungry (I'm 9 days out). But I think it is head hunger. If I'm distracted I don't think about it! But I do feel that I am getting better each day with it. It is definitely not as bad as last week. X

i have to have my breakfast before work so thats about 7.15, then although inbetween at work i have my fluids... i have to wait until 1 to get my lunch.. and i find about 12ish i start to feel a bit hungry.. then im ok... i think its cos i have a 6 hour gap between eating.... but i i not at work and eat with around 5 hour gap... i dont feel hungry at all x

Make sure you have something small to eat or to snack on every 3 hours and fluids in between. If i leave it any longer i feel hungry and get that sicky feeling so little and often is a really good habit to get into.

thanks everyone for your advice :)

It seems to be the general consensus of people who have had the op is that you do still have a physical hunger after the RNY, albeit much easier to satiate after the op.

I know the sleeve is supposed to alleviate hunger by the fact that they remove the 'floating' stomach that contains the Ghrelin emitting bits after the division. I wonder why they dont remove the unused stomach in RNY? and prevent any hunger pangs?

That said I know for a fact that I didnt get to 20 stone because I was hungry! Perhaps we'd be better defining the word 'hunger' and what 'hunger means to us individually before we could say someone else would feel hunger....if you see what I mean lol.
