<<<<GAGGS uurrgghh :jelous:

I have to say it is a distant memory now Liz - and the nurses and drs made it as easy as possible for me.

I had the throat spray AND the sedation - so I would recommend that.

I really felt it was over and done with really quickly. Not half as bad as I imagined beforehand

:)

thankyou for your reply Sue, was it 1 of our surgeons that does it or some 1 else ?

Mr Schroeder did mine. I was told it had to be one of the team that did it.
I just had the throat spray so I could go home again quickly and go to work the next day.
While it wasn't the worst thing I've ever had done, I did find it quite stressful, but it was over very quickly and the throat spray wore off quickly so I could start to swallow again.

I had twilight sedation when I had mine done after my gall bladder removal and it was nothing. I felt right as rain within 20 minutes after the procedure.

Hi Liz, I had mine done by Mr Balphuri, I was dreading it, but in reality it wasn't bad, I like Sue had both sedation and the spray! You have to be awake enough to swallow the camera initially then you are knocked out, I woke up mid proceedure and they quickly gave me more knock out drops, so was only consious for a couple of seconds if that, then woke up when they actually finished the proceedure! Trev only had the spray when he had it done at the QE and he said it was horrific! He was really shocked as he had seen how I was after the surgery and that I was not distressed at all, so thought that he would have the same treatment, obviously not. Just goes to show that sometimes we are actually spoilt at Sunderland!

Liz i never had it in relation to my bypass but have had two previously. I have a very sensitive gag reflux and i insisted on sedation. Its weird cause although you are not out it affects your short term memory for the duration of the procedure and i can HONESTLY say i couldn't have told you anything about it! So insist on sedation and all will be fine and remember i'm such a wimp when it comes to pain xx

I didn't have to have it for my wls, but have had it done twice before and both times I had it without sedation as I needed to be able to drive afterwards. It wasn't nice and if I were you, I would accept the sedation. Having said that, it's over fairly quickly and it's not the worst thing I've ever endured (In my opinion, colonoscopys are much worse!) xx

I have had to have 3 of these scopes in the last 6 weeks .. i have only had the throat spray (as my doc doesnt allow the sedation!) .. while it wasnt the most pleasant thing i have ever done .. i would never have the sedation .. it only lasted a few minutes and while it wasnt comfortable .. i was up and ready to go within a few minutes after the procedure

liz i had one the other week without sedation and was fine. the throat spray works wonders and they give you a disc thing to put between yr teeth. just try and breath normally and focus on a point in the room.
i dont have a very strong gag reflex and the only point that i found slightly strange was when they were bringing the scope out..

I really dont like my mouth touched (same with the dentist) which makes it unpleasent to start with. I had the spray and mild sedation. It is not nice but the worst bit is actually the throat spray. It makes your throat feel strange. Dont worry as it is over quickly.

Hope you dont think I am hijacking your thread, but why do some of you need to be scoped.:(

Liz Mr B did mine and I had the spray. It was unpleasant but not too bad. They are very kind and the ring thing is a blessing to put between your teeth so you dont eat the tubes.

All the best

Jo

I have had the camera down my throat for another matter, not relating to wls and I only had the spray.......I wasnt offered sedation or anything and tbh I didnt find it all that bad....once u relax and do wot they tell u its only lasts for a few mins and up and out the door..........

Hi Liz i am going to be honest and say that for me it was horrendous as i was awake and just had the numbing spray but if they can sedate u then it will be much easier, hope it goes well for you xxx

hy i should have had it done the other week but im emberised to say i had a bad panic attack and didnt go. im a real cowerd and everyone had said it was awful . im goin g to try again but early in the morning, so i dont have all day to think about it , and with sedation................kath x

Lesley i think i shall tell Mr Balupuri i want sedation then lol as its offered at SRH.

i aint looking forward to it, i shall let you know how i get on with that as im awaiting my appointements.

Thanks to everyone thats replied x

Hi Liz, I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago at Sunderland by Mr B. To be completely honest I thought it was difficult to breathe, swallow and stop gaggging. If I were to have it again, I would ask for sedation. The throat spray is the most disgusting taste and it is supposed to be banana flavoured ha ha ha ha

thanks jan i wil ask him for the sedation, how are you ?

Hi Liz, I am ok. I need to have another operation this year so hoping that they don't clash or that my current issues delay my bypass.
