July 2014 Surgeries

lol, I'm okay with the Chicken Cup a Soup, but not Heinz or any thick chicken soups! Our bodies are strange things! xxx

They are indeed. How you getting on Helen? Are you on soft yet? I go back to work tomorrow after 3 weeks off. Mega nervous! X

I'm good!

Soft foods on Saturday!! Whooooop!! Got my cockles ready! LOL and going to make a spicy beef and callaloo stew for dinner :D

I go back to work on Monday - Nervous as I know I'm going to get very tired, very quickly but I need the money so don't want to do phased hours (only started in April, so only get SSP)... But I think I'm ready, this week the tiredness seems to have eased off!

I'm sure you'll do fine at work!! How you getting on otherwise? When do you start Soft foods? xx

Yummy, I don't really know what soft food entails to be fair haha. I start mine a week after you.

Ah I don't blame you, I need to get back as I'm fed up of being at home now, I'm doing half a day in the office and half at home for the first week or so. Xx

I am supposed to start purée food this week but after being taken off the formula I have been on purée food since second week out I am just thickening it up a little

I was told soft food is 'anything a fork goes easily through', 'nothing with a crunch' and 'meat is stewed/hanging off the bone' and 'chew because you want it smaller, not cos you HAVE to chew it' - if that helps, lol xxx

Question. Does any one else find that if there pouch is empty it feels uncomfortable?
I am having to make sure that at least a little water is inside my stomach. It is not what I would call painful and it is not anything like hunger more like a nagging pain like my stomach is pulling slightly. I guess it is the staple line yet to heal fully.

No Hun, I've not had any pain at all. No pulling. No ache. Nothing.

I only get an ache if I eat or drink too fast. - I had a sleeve so maybe different.

And out bodies will heal individually too.

Give you're team a call to see what they sat. xx

Most things can be puréed if you put enough liquid in and you have a decent blender.

A lot of people make pretty soft meals like cottage pie, fish pie, spaghetti bolognese (make sure the pasta is very soft), curry, that kind of thing, so they have their own liquids.

Pureeing meat with gravy, or tinned stewed steak, is another good one, as it helps get your protein in. Mash with plenty of milk in to make it very soft is also good.

If you don't have a blender there's always things like smooth pate, reduced fat hummus, tinned tuna or salmon mashed as smooth as possible with light mayo or tinned sardines or mackerel in tomato sauce also mashed well.

Steamed or poached salmon and cod mash down very well too, especially if you add a little sauce to it.

I have a new one. Tinned tuna and cottage cheese. I manage 1 spoon of tuna and 1 spoon of cottage cheese. Mix it all together and there's no need for mayo (I'm trying to steer clear of it as I was a bit of a mayo addict)

It is lush!!

Llora the hand blenders are the better option I used my food processor blender and struggled so bought hand one so much easier

I fancied chicken tikka with rice. Just tried to blend rice using handheld. We could be picking rice up off the floor and on top of the cupboards for months. It worked once I mixed it all up with the chicken tikka.

I have had one of the worse days ever at work and I have just read your comment, you have made me laugh so much. It has contoured up so many pictures. Sorry you had a problem but bit cheered me up :)

Yes! I had that feeling, it's gone away now but I was worried because it only went away when I had something in my tummy so I felt like I was constantly eating! I think it was me adjusting to hunger vs thirst and everything healing. Now my sleeve just sings opera to me non stop, I think he's a tenor - very deep notes coming out tonight!!!
