Just had surgey yesterday...

Hi kjarvis420,

I see you were to have a bypass looking at your other posts...

When did you have it done:confused:

I will move this into the bypass forum and hopefully someone there can help you out with this.

I have left a re-direct.

Hope it's just the swelling and that you are able to keep sipping gently.
Wishing you all the best hun.
It is always best to phone your provider with regards to anything pain related so that you don't end up struggling and worrying about it x

hi, i felt the same with drinking after i had my bypass just over two weeks ago, i phoned dietician for advice and she said its due to swelling and the fact that the tummy is healing, since then it has got better but i do find i cant take a big gulp i do have to sip all the time. wishing you a speedy recovery xx

In the beginning you just need to sip all day. Tiny sips and plenty of them, to stay hydrated. Gradually capacity should increase. I still can't gulp like I did pre op but can definitely drink more normally now and from about 4 weeks onwards.

BTW, I had gastric bypass Wednesday, April 6...3 days ago. I am able to drink a little bit more at a time, but definitely still sipping. I'm ready for some mushy foods...only a few more days. :)

Congratulations on your surgery! I hope your feeling fit and fabulous very soon. :D

You're moving onto mushy foods after just 1 week? Usually its 2 or 3... and if it's still sort of hurting to drink water, I'd stay on liquids for a bit longer to be honest, as more substantial food might not feel comfortable to swallow.

Maybe some sugar free jelly?

I guess I was still very swollen inside. At 7 days post op, doc moved me onto pureed foods. Doing grrreat! Feeling wonderful! 9 days post op and I'm down 16lbs! Yay!
