Hi
I've never ever kept a diary before but thought now would be an ideal time to start. I've posted a few times so some may already know part of my story but here goes:
Weight 16.5 stone
Height 5ft 3
Bmi 40.7
My names kay, i am 37 yrs old and mother of five gorgeous kids aged 20, 16, 14, 3 and 17 months. My weight has been an issue since my late teens. I had a very happy active childhood, went to ballet.tap and jazz classes and appeared in west end theatre productions I also swam competitively for my county. Weight became a issue once I decided to be a rebel and and stopped all classes and training. Like most I've tried every diet going, taken prescription diet pills and also tried slimming tablets. In 2007 I managed to get my weight down from 14.5 stone to 11 stone, but within a year I had piled the majority back on. I've tried exercise, had a personal trainer and been under a dietician since 2007. I was 17.5 stone at my heaviest and since late 2008 the lowest my weight has been is 16 stone, just can't seem to get it any lower.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with a underactive thyroid.
Forward to November 2014 and after months of being in pain I was operated on by a lovely surgeon called Dr Khan at whittington hospital london and had my gallbladder removed. After surgery Dr Khan and he's colleagues came to talk to me about my weight amongst other things (which is all a bit hazy because of the meds and pain relief) and asked if I had ever considered wls, I had but knew I would never be able to afford it and my doctor had never really been much help when I saw her about my weight.
Two weeks after my op I received two letters one a appt for the group education class and the other a appt to see the consultant.
January 16th I attended the group education class which was basically a PowerPoint presentation and question and answer discussion on surgery options, pros and cons of each procedure and brief rundown on diet before and after surgery. And also filled out a questionnaire on my eating habits.
January 26th I saw Dr Khan who after talking with in great detail with about my weight, when it became a problem, the things I've done to try and tackle my weight etc said that I meet the criteria for wls surgery and as I have had a weight management plan in place for so long it was just a case of funding being organised and I will be put on the waiting list and can expect surgery in about 3 months. Waiting on a appt now for the camera test.
All happened very fast and ive been a bit shell shocked since Monday and very emotional. Feel very grateful and looking forward to life again. Can't stop thinking about how different things will be for me and my kids.
2015 is defo going to be life changing for me ))))))
