Little confused about protein shakes! Anyone offer some advice please???

Thanks for the explaination Silversurfer, I will have to do some more research I guess. Though I did show the hospital dietician who has specialised in WLS nutrition for years, the label off my protein isolate, (with amino acids included) and she said it was fine for me to take.

Just a quick question and I hope this does not sound argumentative because I really don't mean it to...... but why would the makers of Soy Isolate produce it without the essential amino acids it takes to absorb it? I am genuinely confused!

If there is a specific paper that states exactly which amino acids that Soy Isolate lacks (I have tried and failed to locate one) I will go out and buy some as I cannot take whey. I guess I am asking because this is the first I have heard about it.

Hi YP - I'm not that sure about soy as its an area i've really not researched into, i'm not sure what amino acids are needed to absorb, but i've been advised by a bunch of athletic minded friends, (one's a long distance runner and the others a body builder) and both say to avoid soy protein suppliments as most products dont contain the amino acids needed to absorb into the body, and in order to make them absorb correctly you need to take an additional suppliment, which of course costs more, these friends are non bypassers so absorb normally !

It would be wrong for me to say that most dieticians dont have a clue what they are talking about, ;) but this sort of thing is a specialist area, i'll ask my dietician for a technical explaination and see what he comes up with as he's normally very knowledgable about this sort of stuff.
