I have just had a bit of a blow out weekend,,, And i am feeling pretty guilty. What if i get the call today that my op is in the next few days???? Will i have enough time to repair the damage i have done :break_diet:

Is that likely? have you been given the suggestion that your operation might be appointed in the next few days? Are you currently on the liver shrinking diet?

If the answers above are no then I wouldn't worry about it, if yes then before you accept the appointment be honest and tell them of your weekend antics, it should be ok but the last thing you or they want is to cut you open only to find that your liver is in the way and they cannot proceed.

A general anaesthetic is a dangerous thing when you're huge and not worth the risk if they think your blow out weekend will hinder the chances of a successful procedure. Let's hope its not an issue x

The secretary spoken to me on friday saying that my Op could be anytime in the next three weeks. I am fretting over nothing i know because surely they will have to give me some notice so i can follow the diet properly. She has put me on the cancellation list aswell though. I am sure things will be fine and if she does call i will be honest. x

This is a bit like never eating in case you get run over by a bus at any minute and need a general anaesthetic. You can't live like that! You haven't been given a date, so they can't expect you to behave as if you are on the pre op. Just don't go TOO crazy overeating, don't live every day as if it's your last chance for a blow out, but at the same time, you gotta live, girlie! :)

I'm sorry Ruthie but i don't agree. The stats clearly state 'on pre op diet'. If your on the pre op diet and then get told it could be anytime in the next three weeks then in all honesty you gotta be prepared for the consequences when you don't get your op or you get an op then get sewn back up without it happening because your liver hasn't shrunk enough for it to happen safely....

If i were you, i'd get straight back on that diet and just remember, you could get a call tomorrow asking you to go in a couple of days, that doesn't give much repair time. And if your like me, when i had a blow out weekend when on a regular diet it often used to carry on through the week...

Back on track, cross your fingers you get a call at the end of this week after following your diet and all the very best for your surgery.

Remember most of all, you don't need to kiss food goodbye forever, you will soon be back to normal eating just smaller portions xxx

I would say be carefull now because even if you get your op soon and they find your liver hast shrunk the should still do the op but it would be open surgery and far more risks pain and recovery time so yeah call that your very last blow out and tred carefully until u get the call but don't fret too much they have to give you at least 10 days to cover a liver diet ... just be carefull xxx

Nope sorry that's absolute utter rubbish. If you agree to a date within the next three weeks then you should be prepared to do your bit. If you further agree to go on the cancellation list then you should be prepared for a call at very short notice.

You appear to have missed my point about the anaesthetic so I'll try again. Being huge greatly increases the risks from anaesthetic, there is no doubt about that. If you have to have one as a result of an accident then there is little choice but to take the risk and hope you get through. WLS is elective in that we choose to have the surgery and after weighing up the risks decide whether they are worth it. Usually they are, not the least of which because the team are experienced in operating on morbidly obese people. There remains however a risk and my point was why take that risk if because of a failure to follow the pre op diet there is an increased chance that they will not be able to complete?

Your "but at the same time, you gotta live, girlie!" comment is facetious Ruth. The OP is going through this to have the chance to "live" a healthier normal life, and can do all the living she wants once she has lost the weight she hopes to lose as a result of her operation. Two or three weeks of dieting discomfort is a small price to pay for a future lifetime

I agree with what you said here my hospital have scared the life out of me about this saying if I don't shrink my liver they will still try there best to do the op but it will open surgery, higher risks in all areas

OK I think when I wrote that, I didn't know that she had been given a ballpark date; ie sometime in the next 3 weeks. If you read the first post only, you'll see what I was replying to. I thought it could be anytime ie months away still. If she knows it' s somewhere in the next 3 weeks then it's like being on the pre op. I agree.

Everyone is different , but if it is me I would do the preop till the op even though it could be 3 weeks! I am so desperate to get this done I will do everything in my power to ensure that all goes well ,,

Good luck anyway let us know how it goes xxx

Again i have to be pedantic, they do not have to give you 10 days to cover a liver diet. I was called in for a cancellation after following the diet for a week....
