How did it go?
When did you get the appointment through?
Did they say anything about pre op diet?
Did they give you any idea how long you will have to wait?

Pre-assessment was this Tuesday and was fine, they gave me the diet to follow and said wait for a date. you follow the diet for a week if bmi below 50 otherwise its two weeks. I phoned back yesterday to check if my bloods had come back ok (most people dont follow this up and then wonder ehy theyve not heard anything) - the process is that if bloods are not right you getreferred back to sort levels out (iron, sugars etc), you then got back for preassessment. Mine were fine and am now waiting for a date. i also phoned the waiting list office - number was provided at pre-assessment and spoke to a sister Mason. She was very helpful. she said all patients get seen within 18 weeks of being put on the list. I have been on it 9 weeks, she said that the bariatric surgeons specialise in cancer surgery which can take up a whole day, ther are some major cancer cases in the next two weeks and then easter hols, she thinks i will be done on the next batch of lists after or on 16 April. My 18 weeks ends on 15 May. dont worry ask as many questions as you want.

I still have not got a letter re my pre op. If yours was Tuesday when did you get the letter letting you know.
My BMI is over 50 so I guess I will be doing 2weeks on pre op diet.

i got my pre-assessment letter on thursday andthe preop was following tuesday, dont give you much notice do they - you can phone them - ring BRI and ask to be put through the gastrci bypass booking office or inpatient waiting list - i phoned them and got my date before i got the letter - good luck
are you part of the bradford gastric bypass group on facebook. there is a meeting today at field house, BRI - all the members get together and the surgeons dieticians also visit for a chat. you dont hav eto be part of the facebook group to attend - its 6pm-6.30 today. youd ont need to confirm in advance but can do if you wish by emailing: [email protected]

Well the postman came today with my pre assessment letter. It is not until the 21st April so a few weeks yet.
It says on the letter that my consultant has requested I am accessed by anaesthetist prior to surgery. Did your pre op letter say that?
Anyway onwards and upwards. We are getting nearer. XX

Hi Gill, yes mine said that too, and you are ther for two hours. when you go to reception you wait a bit then the nurses take you in and quickly run some bloods and an ECG, you then wait back outside and the nurse calls you in, I saw the anesthetist before seeing the nurse as there was a wait, she talks to you for 10 mins and isnt too concerned if you have no sleep apnea. te main nurse spends alot of time going through your medical history. Heres a tip, they sent me another pre-assessment letter yesterday in error for an ppointment on 10th April - why dont you call them up and ask if they have any cancellations on teh 10th April as you might not be available on 21st, thats gaining two weeks
