To be honest I think you might struggle a bit Dawn. You will be on a liquid diet for a while but still need to get in a fair bit of protein. Milk is the best way to achieve that, I even added dried semi-skimmed milk powder to SS milk to up the protein. You will need to speak to your dietician to find some alternative protein source. Good luck with your op.

I suppose it really does depend on what your specific provider & dietician advises, but there are ways around it if you really can't tolerate milk. Am I right in thinking you are talking about immediately post-op?
I'm a firm supporter of protein shakes...I know some on here are of the opinion that one shouldn't need protein shakes if you are eating 'properly', but equally, it is also evident that it can take weeks for some people to gradually introduce solid protein (in the form of meats & fish) back into their diet. Protein is so important for repair & maintenance of tissue, particulary post-op, I personally think it's better to get protein in whatever form you can manage, than not get it in at all. There are many different forms of pure protein shakes available, they don't have to be made with milk either. I have recently bought some Syntrax Nectar protein drinks...I haven't tried them yet but they are fruit protein shakes that when made up with water, make a fruit drink like squash. They can also be used to make fruit smoothies, ice-cream etc.

i became milk intolerant after the op so wasnt able to have milk, so i bought some natural flavour build up and mixed into my soups and drinks . it doesnt taste of anything .as i tocant stand milk shakes or any kind of protein shakes .... you can buy it from most chemists xx

Hi Angie thanks for your reply,
Im talking about immediately after the op and for the future in general, i hope in the long term i could just take a calcium supp ??
thanks for the tips about the protein shakes made with water, and into smoothies, i love fruit so that is definately an option :) the fruit squash ones should be fine with me, ill have to have a look and get some.
