Hey. I fist went to see Dr New in the May of 2008 so its over a year ago now. I took a couple of months to get my head around the fact that I needed to have a bypass as I have already had a band which has failed so as you can understand it took a few weeks to get my head around things (I explain a few things in my WLS diary). Anyway I was put forward for surgery back in September of last year but my GP was so slow at getting the finding sorted and kept filling in the stuff wrong so my application kept getting sent back and forth as they did not have enough information and in-between I was back and forth to see Dr New.

I know things seem like they are taking ages but I know that Mr Ammori now has a huge number of patients on his books that are in the pipeline for WLS. I am hoping now that the new funding system is in place in some PCTs that things should move quicker but we shall see!! Have you got your funding through and everything???

thanks fuze sorry yove had such a long wate and i hope everything goes well. yes he does have a lot of patience on his books i was told a few weeks ago that it was about 180 and no dout there will be more now. yes my funding is there and ive been and seen everyone now just waiting for a date. mr ammories secretary says im getting near top of list but i feel ive been wating forever and i was just wondering if other people had had the same long wate im just getting impationt i supose. good luck for 3rd ...... kath xx

Good luck.
Just keep saying to yourself (every day, in every way, i feel better and better)

Hello everyone,
After reading and lots of thinking, researching going for wls with the band.
Prof Mc Mahon at Nuffield Leeds on the 3rd September, booked holiday with family for middle of August ,could of had it done at the end of July but felt after the holidays was right for me.

Have been told will probably be fit for work after a week , that if all works out will be great.
Never been off sick or ill so maybe its justifable for this operation.

I have'nt told any one about my decision to go for this option yet.
So will be on here often reading and off loading my fears and hopes.

Really excited about the future as been trying forever to get weight off in every way imaginable..........

Pre op assessment on the 5th August, so i can ask all the questions i need to ask.

A big question in my mind, if after 15 years ( i believe thats the longeast reseach done on a band to date ) it needs to removed do we have to pay again...
I suppose i know the answer is yes but.just wondering.
(Not that i would even think of having it removed As not even had it yet ) just a question for the more experienced on here like Shell and Phat girl ,Caz ,Hopeless and others who are a wealth of knowledge.
Alos can any body join the support groups at various hospital or do you need to have had the surgery at them. Sorry if these have been asked before ??

Thank you all Mia

Hi Mia,

Most support groups are open ones, so anyone can go along (and that includes pre-op too). The best bet is to just give them a call and check.

Can't help with the band removal query sorry, being an NHS bypasser!

Shel

Thanks so much for the reply will try the one at Cheadle or Hope as they are reasonable distance from me.

You look fabulous great to read your story.

Wonderful event to look forward to,happy pregnancy.

Thanks. Our very own Phatgirl goes to the one at Hope, she is lovely. That's open to all. We have meets in Manchester quite regularly too, there is one this Saturday somewhere if you're interested.

Hi all, Havent been on here a while but finally got my date at last! I will be having the Band fitted on October 9th at Birmingham Heartlands with Dr Super, so very excited now, but bit bothered as my recent scan through my gp showed gallstones and a fatty liver, hope this wont stop me having it! I do believe that the pre op diet is supposed to reduce the fatty liver, is that correct???
