paper knickers

hi all ... I am hacing a neurotic moment even though I don't have a surgery date yet!

The hospital will have paper knickers in my size (28-30) won't they? Don't want the embarrasment of telling the nurse I ripped them trying to get them over my thighs!

I know I am being daft, but its this sort of thing that keeps me up at night!

Thanks all

Are you going to Chichester? If you are, I was allowed to wear my own knickers. Some hospitals don't want you to wear anything though.

hiya ... yes I will be at st richards. Wearing my own knickers would be nicer I must admit!

Thanks FJ - I knew someone would be able to make me feel better :worthy:

yes the knickers come in 2 sizes in my hospital, normal and plus the were too big for me and im a size 30/32 so dont worry

I was done at sunderland royal and was allowed to wear my own knickers. i am sure if you have to wear paper knickers the hospital will have your size as they are specialist units so dont worry and good luck. your psych assessment must have gone well

I didn't wear knickers for the op (admitted at 6.30am and walked into theatre and climbed on the operating table at 8am). TBH you will probably have a bladder catheter put in during the op, and have it for at least 24hrs post op, so don't fret! When they removed the catheter and disconnected me from all the HDU machines etc they got me up and walking. I was in my own clothes (vest top and PJ trousers), also my own pants and bra. Fret not dear girl - when it's all going on such 'worries' tend to take a backseat xxx

I didn't wear any and didn't care!

Oh, and as the hospital specialises in bariatrics they will have customers far bigger than you. I was size 24 on op day - the gown went round me twice, they had to get smaller anti-clot stockings and when I was on the table being connected to everything (before being put under) I heard a comment they'd have to find a smaller blood-pressure cuff for me. That doesn't happen to me very often ;-)

Correction - DIDN'T happen to me ...

I was allowed to wear my own - the then big decision was what colour to wear! Lol

No knickers allowed for either of the hospitals that I've had surgery at.

Even had to get 'em off for my first endoscopy. Second one, clearly a more civilised hospital as fully clothed..... sigh.....

The ones I was given were more like a hairnet (if it wasn't for the leg holes I would have put them on my head). Weren't made out of paper, some sort of material - snug though and lasted through the event. :)

Seems not everywhere catheterises its patients, my surgeon doesn't as a matter of routine, his reasoning is that if you need to go to the toilet you have to get up and it gets you walking sooner.

I would run starkers..ok so make that hobble n wobble about the whole of the UK naked knickerless just for the Op...so bear it all be proud and don't care just be glad you are there lol

I'm a 32, with my weight concentrated on my hips and belly. The paper knickers at Leeds Nuffield were absolutely fine for me. You'll be fine honey, honestly! x

I wore knickers and I was done at Taunton. Although when I say I wore knickers, I wouldn't be at all surprised if once i was out they whipped em off because they were surprisingly clear of iodine wash or anything. It seemed very important to me at the time but after the op I have to say it was insignificant.
