As anyone out there had a bypass with Mr Patel, London?

I wondered what your post op diet was like?

X

I am a Mr Patel patient - both Beth and the dietician will give you booklets on post of eating. I was liquid for 4 weeks...I thinks, seems so long ago now (but it's only 16 weeks ago!) I think I lived on home made soup, shakes, hot options chocolate and low fat custard...ah for 2 weeks actually then went onto - Puree for 2 weeks (so that was soup!) then went on to soft mashed, mashed and was back to solids (minus red meat and rice) by week 6.
Hope that helps and good luck with your op -when and what are you having?
I have given you bypass answer - so hope you are not a Bander?!

Hey :) I had a gastric bypass (after failed gastric band) by Mr Patel on 24/6/12... 3rd week of liquid only-testing times! Food cravings are kicking in- any tips?

How long are you in the liquids double bubble?

A friend of mine added marvel powder to everything to help with hunger?

How did you find your bypass with Mr Patel? Hope you ate recovering well.

Are you having protien shakes? They can really help with keeping the hunger under lock and key - also think of some new food to add in to change the routine I found that helped too - Low fat custard, Options hot chocolate etc.
You will be out of this phase before you know it, just hang in there! xx

Hey :) I'm on liquids for another 12 days :-( my fave thing at the mo is one weetabix drenched in milk- protein and fibre! My hunger isn't really the issue; as in, I get hungry because I don't want to drink anymore soup! So I leave it and get really hungry then crave junk. I guess some habits are just really hard to break!

My surgeon was Mr. Patel. I ended up being hospitalized (food allergy issues) at 2 weeks out and so my liquid diet was extended to 4 weeks, then 2 weeks of purees. I wasn't terribly strict with it and ended up doing more like 3 weeks liquids and then adding in some puree/soft foods. I'm at 9 weeks now and honestly, eating is a chore. I feel good most of the time but if I eat, I burp and feel yucky and wish I hadn't bothered. I know that's a stage and will pass. So far, no problematic hunger, no hair falling out, just under 2 1/2 stone off, very happy I went with his suggestion of gastric bypass.

Hi Devon

Wow a great weight loss in 9 weeks! Well done

Had my pack today which shows my post op diet! Looks daunting but hopefully my tiny stomach will make it a little easier!

Did u have food allergies before the op?

Xx

Thanks!

I did, as a child I had a huge range of them, was on inhalers and weekly antihistimine injections but I grew out of them and hadn't thought of them in 30 years. Surgery seems to have brought them all back - milk protein/casein, gluten, corn, corn by-products are the biggies. It was milk that set off the reaction that landed me in hospital so anything with milk in it now, has to be cooked, not instant. Processing breaks down the protein. I'm not a big milk fan anyway ;)

Oh bless you that sounds like a nightmare you could do without!

I hope it all settles down for you!
Good luck with the rest of your weight loss.

I'm super excited but have my stress out days where I think I'm doing the wrong thing! I have an 8 month old little boy and it's worrying about him that starts me off!

Op at the end of Aug! Aaaaagh!! Xxxx

I've had a brush with cervical cancer and when I went to last year's outpatient they told me my one controllable risk factor was my weight. I did 10 months of last-ditch dieting attempts - pills, liquids, etc. and then said that's it. I have 6 kids, the oldest is 24 and has Aspergers and the youngest is 4. I'll do anything to make sure I'm here with them every day I possibly can so that was it, easy decision. I went to a seminar of Chris Pring's and then did a consult with Dr. Patel, made my decision and was in surgery 3 weeks later. My kids are already getting their mom back, my mood is better, my energy is up, it's for them as much as me and makes the temporary wobbles so small in comparison!

Oh bless you! That brought a tear to my eye!

I'm sure everything will be positive from now on and your children are extremely lucky to have a mum who is looking out for their futures.

Good on you xxx

im almost 4weeks post op now and this last week i gave in and had poached egg and scrambled egg, mash and sausage, i just cant take anymore liquid... i never used to even have much in the way of tea or coffee so liquid bloats me big time... mind you this could be the cause of the pain im feeling under my left boob/central, i know its not a heart attack im wondering if a staple has loosened or something... having said that im gonna just settle for a few days with soup and low calorie jellies and low fat custards see if that helps... i cant turn on my sides or take a deeep breath however it does feel slightly better at present but havent 'eaten' yet...

hope you all have a good day/week xx

oh and meant to say i had my op done by Mr Patel, hes lovely, was called on the friday for pre op assessment monday to go have it done on the tuesday evening at bmi weymouth hospital in london private hospital, was treated lovely only 17 beds and just 2 of us on the same floor we had made friends via facebook which was nice.... only thing MrPatel doesnt like you to take medication whilst there.. so my arthritis meds and bp meds and pain stuff were all put in the drawer, not good cos my bp went mental after a few days... very low then very high with my heart racing... they had an ambulance ready to collect me to take me to kings where i was originally gonna have it done but then... the blood Dr he was lovely to gave me my bp meds... ambulance cancelled and managed to go home much later that same night my GP says its something we have to watch carefully now as the more weight that comes down so will bp... xx
