Post op diet with Mr Patel

Liesa, I had that pain on the left and now, 11 weeks out today, it's much better, is virtually gone. If I lay on my left side in bed reading too long it will 'pinch' but nothing like the ache/pain I used to feel and if I move, it stops. It got better after week 8 for me, slowly improving. After chatting with Beth, I think it's the new intestinal connection on that side, also the 'dead' stomach is on that side and has staples that are healing as well, some combination is causing that pain and most people don't seem to get it at all so lucky us. ;o)
I was allowed to take my thyroid meds straight through at Kings, Mr. Patel had no issue with them, might just be the specific meds involved there.
Your soft foods sound fine for 4 weeks post-op. Doctors vary wildly on when they move the diets up but most will have you on soft foods around week 4 anyway. Mr. Patel doesn't tend to be strict on the pre-op front but is more cautious than average on the post-op diet.

Thanks Devon thats reasurring, the left sided pain has settled but did scare me as i couldnt take a deep breath, started worrying about a, DVT or b, Staple came undone, but this morning i managed to lie gently on my left side and it felt comfy, its strange as i have been able to lie on both sides ever since having the op but have slept very well on my back which i didnt before... got a new friend coming to visit tomorrow who i made friends with through fb a bypass group we have on there, last summer she was size 20/22 shes now a size 10, i'm a 24.. but clothing feeling baggy on top which wasnt my biggest area to start with i carry round my bum... but in 4 weeks i have lost 4 inches off butt and 2 off bust and 2 off hips which delights me greatly!! have a lovely day in the sunshine xx

Hi there,

Just a quick question for all you Kings graduates...

How long after the group session did you have your surgery? I'm trying to work out a timescale in my head, and have nothing to go by at all.

Sx

Interesting. I could do without it, I've done all the research I can.

I'm all done and feeling much better. I too had the left hand side pain and still do unless I take my pain meds!
Have asked my gp to change my pain meds as tramadol is making me a little crazy!
Also not tolerating milk right now so sticking to soup and Bovril.

Happy though, the bit I was worried about is all over!

I'm cracking under the pressure of the liquids! :cry:4 weeks is forever!
