Post op Sleever
So... Here's my op day run down.
Place: Countess of Chester
Funding: NHS
Surgical team: Phoenix Healthcare
Surgeon: Mr David Monk
Anaethetist: Mr Singh
Pre-op weight: 199.2kg
I live near Crewe in the area of Cheshire East. I had been working with a Specialist Weight Management Nurse for 2 years prior to requesting surgery. I was referred at the end of June and my op was approx 6 weeks later.
Pre op appt was 31st July. On this day boots are taken, we met with the dietician, Anaethetist, surgeon and psychologist. We also had a presentation on the different types of surgery and the post op expectations.
Surgery is usually 2-3 weeks after that, but I got my date even sooner. The gastroscopy was done on the 6th Aug. This is standard with phoenix.
13th Aug: 8am arrival at CoOCh. Id asked my surgeon during our preop phone call if I could go first as I suffer from increasing anxiety. By 9:30 I was walking to theatre! I had to check in, meet Mr Singh, Mr Monk and sign forms etc. But i was quickly into a surgical gown and my own knickers!
My anesthetic team were excellent. Kept me so calm and chatty that id got an oxygen mask and canula in and was drifting of before I knew it. At Phoenix they put in two canulas after you are asleep in case of complications. So I have no memory of being tortured while they tried to find a vein.
I came round not long after 11am in recovery but went back to sleep a couple of times before they sent me back to HDU on ward 41.
Once in HDU I had nurses almost constantly poking me to keep me awake telling me "deep breathes" as the monitor couldn't recognise that I Was breathing. The gave me several shots of morphine antidote over the day as they figured the morphine was depressing my breathing. Apparently I'm highly susceptible to morphine!
Rest of Tuesday passed by with hourly obs including hourly spirometer exercises (does everyone do these?) and dozing off. Water intake was good, lots of sipping. Wind pain was more aches with occasional moments of discomfort and to be honest hasn't got any worse since.
Discharged today, after two nights.
Home now eating pureed shepherds pie that I made before the op.
Massive pile of pills including a spirometer and fragomin injections.
Lovely to come home to my kids and sit at the table eating my tea whole they're eating sausage and mash.

My pill shelf and my homemade post op bariatric high protein meals.

sounds fab babes, glad it went smoothly!

showing my ignorance .. whats a spirometer? sounds like something to measure small dragons?! xxx

Small dragons? Haha. It's to measure the power of your puff (breathing - not drugs, btw). But then Puff was a magic dragon, who lived by the sea.

Glad everything went well for you on the whole, and that you were home now. I was not allowed to eat cottage pie until two weeks post op, glad you are already allowed to eat that. Hope all will go well for you on your journey. X

All my food is pureed smooth and mixed with a little extra water to let down the texture a bit.
I'll take a photo of the spiro for you but that's a pretty good description from lilac.

Actually I am visually impaired so can't see the photos anyway, I was just curious as I only had fluids for the first two weeks. Guess every provider is different. Sounds good though, wish I had been able to do that, as I was sick of just milk and oxo after one week. :)

Yes JoJo. Its been 2 days since before the op. Number 1's have flowed, but 2's have been in short supply. Lol
