Hi Gemzy hope your recovery is going ok.

All good here thanks Andie, managing more fluids by the day, still no pain/trapped wind (lucky me) & no regrets :)

Have you heard anything from them regarding your pre op assessment Andie? my appointment was about 7 weeks after I got the letter saying I was suitable for surgery, if you havent heard yet just assume they are busy & trying to juggle everyone think thats why I was swapped to Mr Adamo, eitherway they are definitely worth the wait & you wont regret it & the time does fly once its all confirmed..

Fingers crossed for you :)

Hi my pre op assessment is on the 17th June is that when they give you a date for the op.? I really can't wait now.
When you had pre op assessment did you have to wait ages before your operation date?
I remember you saying they cancelled your first appointment.
I went to the support group at the UCL on Tuesday it was really good the next one is at the end of June . Basically everyone shares their experiences and there was a psychologist and a dietician there to answer questions and give advice.
The people who were there were really open and friendly about their journeys perhaps if your interested we could both go to the next one.?
All the info is on the hospital website.
How are you feeling now? Are you still just on liquids?
I met a lady the other day who has had a bypass at the ucl 2 years back and she told me she never has a full meal but it doesn't bother her because she never feels hungry. She looked amazing.
I bet you can't believe you had your op over a week ago time surely does fly.

Glad you have a date Andie, my pre op was 28th Feb, they called me the following monday afternoon with my first op date (24th April) & gave me dates of when to do blood tests & start liver shrinking diet. First op was cancelled after waiting 6 hrs due to no beds (A&E had a big emergency)
I did go to a support group in november (about food labels) the rest of them clashed with my no smoking support group so havent managed one since but yeh be nice to meet up for the next one :)

I have to keep reminding myself I have had the op, I feel so well, no pain at all I fear I will overdo it otherwise, one more week on liquids but enjoying them to be honest & I've found the more drinks I get in in a day the more my weight drops next morning ;)

Time does fly but at the same time I can hardly remember being unsleeved, mind you I was on pre op diet for nearly 6 weeks too

6 weeks sounds like a long time however it was worth it.
Can I ask can you recommend any shakes for the pre op diet apart from slim fast? They seem to be what most people use on here but I don't really like the taste or is that what you used?

Thanks

Androulla

I used Slim & Save, very similar to the cambridge diet but cheaper & no meetings/weigh ins, just order online & they deliver next day, I lost 4 stone with them before but as usual put it back on plus some... hence wls :)

I always struggled with slimfast it tastes too sweet.

6 weeks pre op was only because I was cancelled & part of me hoped they would call last minute to fit me in, I wanted to be ready just incase

Hi Gemzy how is everything going with your recovery? I hope that you are well.
You know the slim and save that you recommended did it fill you up or was you still hungry when you was taking it?

I have my pre op next week what sort of tests do they do at that appointment?

Thanks

Androulla

Hi Andie, all going good here, recovering great... no problems at all :)
Yes the slim & save filled me up, I had 4 a day, some days I added some diced cucumber to the spicy spaghetti meal (my fave) but as long as you drink enough water like most VLCDs after day 3-4 the hunger disappears & ketosis kicks in!

My pre-op appt was just a chat with the dietician who went through the pre-op diet & post op plans, & a meet with the nurse who explained the op again, weighed me & gave me blood test forms ready for when I had to get them done (week before pre-op diet starts..... shouldn't be much longer for you after that!!

I feel more excited for you than I did for myself haha, think I was just going with the flow unsure of what came next.

Ahh bless you thank you for saying that I'm feeling scared lol.

So happy that you are doing so well and it puts me at ease knowing someone who has had the same op done at the same hospital.
I have not seen any other people on here saying they had an op done at the UCLH apart from you and really glad we have been chatting.

Did the hospital at any point test you for sleep apnoea or an ECG.?

My kids and husband have been telling me lately that I snore really loud and worried I might have it and wondering if I do will it delay my surgery date.

I guess all these things I should discuss with the doc at my appointment next week

Thanks about the feedback on the slim and save it was really helpful.

Are you going to go to the support group at the end of June?

Have come across a couple on here had ops at the UCH & a friend of mine appeared at my first appointment, she had her op a month before me so that did help me.

They did a heart check at the pre op (forgot that it only took minutes) but no sleep apnoea test, they just asked if I had it, I said not that I knew of, its not about snoring is it? its stopping breathing in your sleep I thought.

I'd like to go to the next meeting yes.
