Professor Ammori sleevers - charged for consultation?

Hi all

I had a quote from the Spire with Professor Ammori but apparently he charges for consultations, £150.00 face to face or Skype £100.

Has anyone used his services elsewhere and wasn't charged a consultation?

I had a consultation at spire in Anlaby and it was £150 as it was private, about the going rate I think.
Hope that helps

Hi.

I had a Skype consultation with Professor Ammori and was charged £100. Have had private consultations before (for other things) and was charged more than that.

Shaba x

Thank you both, would you say all your questions were answered during your session?

I was sleeved by the Prof and when I booked my op I asked if there could be any negotiation on the price and he knocked off the consultation fee.

Hi Mrs Noodles.
Yes, all my questions were answered although I was sure I wanted a wrap and then Professor Ammori mentioned the sleeve (I thought my BMI was too low for the sleeve) so at the moment I am trying to decide what surgery I want!
And when I say I was charged £100 for my consultation...I have never actually had a bill and my consultation was in early Summer......lol

oh interesting ha ha!

Did you arrange the consultation through his secretary? I was hell bent on having a wrap but I feel i'd get better results with the sleeve.

Yes, I bombarded Mary with questions and eventually I had the Skype consultation. I also was definitely having the wrap but now think I will have the sleeve for a number of reasons.

All my questions were answered and I was given nearly an hour one to one with Mr Sedman, he was very informative.
I did tell him that I had looked up all the consultants in the area and their qualifications as well as even the mortality rate of each !
He thought that was excellent as many walk into the bypass thinking it is an easy option..........which we all know it is not !
He also pointed out all the negatives as well as the positives so all in all a good choice for me.
I was offered this operation cheaper at other uk clinics although none of the others said I had to get a letter from my gp, that is another plus for spire.

I had a sleeve with Prof Ammori in Manchester on the 30th Nov. I was charged £100 for a face to face consultation, well worth trying to negotiate.
Also went directly to him rather than through healthier weight and the surgery cost me £8000 instead of 10.5k I was quoted by Healthier weight. e is an amazing surgeon I am 17 days out and feel totally recovered, my scars are minimal and am up about with no pain. He's great! :)

yes - I paid £150 consultation. I was offered skype consulation too - but for my own peace of mind, decided a road trip was a better idea and visited in person.

I did something a bit odd.... I also insisted on booking pre-ops at the same time as consultation visit as I was pretty damn sure I wanted to follow through. I was advised those would be chargeable if I didnt go ahead. However, it got it all done in one trip and I had surgery exactly a week after consultation.

Even if I hadn't - it would have been worth it for the extra peace of mind I got from speaking to the bariatric nurse (who herself has had bypass and lost 14 st) and the dietician

Thanks Sarah, I've been reading your posts with interest as I noticed you've had a wrap and had some excellent results!
Please can I ask if you would have the wrap again and what made you choose the wrap over the sleeve?

I'd do it again any day - though hopefully I'll never have to !

I picked the wrap over the sleeve as I really got rather nervous over some sleevers stories of having had major issues including leaks and bleeds (not Prof A's sleevers I may add). Have a read at Scooter's posts. I'm sure she's a fairly rare case - but too blooming scary for me !

I have a young child and wanted minimal invasion and fast recovery.

I was given a real talking to and warning from Prof A that the procedure is classed as experimental in the UK and I would be his 10th wrapper - though he has done hundreds of bariatric ops and is one of the most highly recognised surgeons for this in the UK.

He told me one of his first patients was a man that he had recommended be bypassed, but insisted on a wrap. He stuffed himself full of everything he could and after an initial very small lost, put on loads more before going back to be bypassed.

Most other patients have had similar results to the sleeve - but you do need to respect it and treat the whole thing as a life change. My head was already in the right place and I'd lost quite a bit before arranging a consultation - so he was happy to proceed right away.

I had NO pain killers at all after surgery and was out the following morning. Life was back to normal really quickly, though it took a while to adjust to the wrap. The restriction is pretty mega in the early days, but a side plate is normal for me these days (not piled !) and I can tolerate any food choice I desire.

I've been very careful the whole way about food choices. For me it is a life change and the restriction is much like a guardian angel on my shoulder. When stress etc gets far too much, I'm not going to have the crutch of carbs and food to go back on.

To be honest, I've had a serious amount of mayhem and stress in my life this week. It's been totally chaotic..... Despite being surrounded by chocolate, I've had no notion of gobbling any. The appeal isnt there any more ! I will once in a while have a teeny weeny kinder bar or something - but that's pretty rate.

I had an assessment by the hospital last month and am due another in February. They checked all my current stats and my losses are above expected targets for the wrap and in par with those expected for a sleeve at this point.

Like anything, you need to make it work. It HELPS, but isn't the only answer.

I avoid bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. I'll have a little of one of those once a week as a treat - but part of a meal. Egg on a crumpet this week ! That makes a big difference for me as means my fat and sugar content is close to non existent.

Weight loss is now slow, but it is still moving. Some weeks better than others..

I've never been brave enough to put on a photo before (am cringing now) but here is a photo from last year ..... and two from a visit to the Christmas markets earlier this month.

Size difference, I think that's 24 (possible 24/26) to 16...

I've found your post!

Thank you so much Sarah for sharing your pictures and story with me. You shouldn't cringe as you look great! I think Prof A has now done 12 wraps. I am very interested as like you say its let invasive and cheaper than a sleeve. I understand its only a tool and I would have to make life style changes too.

What is a typical days food for you and are you ever really hungry?

Many thanks Lisa x

I have had a wrap! Not with Prof P. But, it's been my miracle!!! I had it in March 2012 and have lost 12 stone. My restriction is brilliant. I would definitely recommend it. I have been at goal since June/July. I just had all my loose skin removed. I love love love my wrap, it changed my life.

Hi Snow White

That's a fantastic loss, well done!

I noticed you went with cosmetic bliss, I was looking into having surgery with them 14 months ago. I saw on google the other day they've gone into admin. Do you know if Doctor Cierney is still practising?

Oh yes - sometimes I get really hungry... But only when I should ... And it doesn't take much to fill me up.

I often just have a cup of tea for breakfast. Sometimes I'll have two scrambled eggs. Then I'm stuffed.

At lunch Monday to Friday, I have tuna salad. 50g of tuna that was in brine, couple of tbsp of sweet corn , a little cucumber and tomato or home
Made soup.

For dinner, I normally have what I fancy - but I avoid potatoes, pasta, rice and bread. A side plate portion.

On Sundays I'll sometimes have a bacon sandwich. Two slices of bacon and I cut all the crusts off the bread as it's too much otherwise. Had a treat tonight - coffee and a mini bag of malt esters.

Some things I can eat way yay more than others. Heavy protien like meat and eggs and filling veggies like mushrooms, carrot, broccoli fill me up really fast.

Snow White has done amazingly ! I'm not expecting that sort of loss, but it's changed my life so so much already ... X

Good luck whatever you decide to do !

Thank you ladies!! Noodles, Dr Cierney is still practising at Breclav Hospital. He had no investment at Cosmetic Bliss and is completely independent. You could try calling the hospital direct and see how a booking would work. He is a brilliant surgeon and has done over a 1000 wraps in the last several years.
