The sooner you are up & about the smaller your risk of dvt's , chest infections etc , so it makes sence to be up ASAP

Yeah that's what a nurse has told me she said at my hosp they try make you get up 2 or 3 hours after and a lot until you go home Xx

I was also up a few hours after my op ... having a catheter does not stop this .. I could not do cartwheels down the ward, but then again I still can't, lol, but did enough to keep my blood flowing. :):) xxx

hahaha that's bringing up some great mental images of watching someone cartwheel down the ward with their catheter and drip in tow!! :giggle:If only that had happened when I was in, would've made my hospital stay so much more bearable, especially as I didn't have a TV!!!

H xx

a drip doesnt hurt hun, it just restricts you a little because A) you can see it and B) you try not to knock it. oh, and you cant get dressed properly if its hooked up to something lol

the thing about a catheter, and the reason so many are put off by it, is more the embarassment of having it in than anything else....and i think we can all get over a little embarrassment lol

all these things may seem big to you, but i promise, after surgery, you wont care, or even think about them xx

I had my op done at Huddersfield by Mr Ainsley and I woke up with a catheter and a drip, taken out on day 5. I still got out of bed the morning after and each day there after, and the nurses helped me do some walking during this time too. I didn't have any discomfort from either the catheter or drip. As soon as I was free of them I was able to move freely by myself.

i had a really bad infection in one of my drip sites and my hand is still a little purple even now :(

Yeah I am abit embarrassed but I wouldn't let that stop me lol, there big to me because I hadn't thought about them and just want to know everything that could possibly happen during and after the op I'm a tough cookie though lol and have been in hospital before I'm just trying to tick all the boxes :D your all being very helpful in allowing me to do so :) xxx

I think he might be my surgeon too, is it routine for him to keep you in that long? Xxx

No definitely not. I ended up with open surgery and I had a drain that wouldn't dry up so had to remain in hospital until that was sorted out. Most people with keyhole surgery would go home after 2 - 3 days if all is well.

Ah I see yeah I'd been told that 2-3 days was usually the amount of time for key hole, were you in a lot of pain then? Xxx

The pain was managed ok to be honest .. I'd say discomfort was more of what I got. Getting in and out of bed for me was 'tricky' but once home I improved each and every day :) One 'bonus' with open surgery, is you don't normally get wind pain like a lot of people get with key hole... hehe!!!

Yeah I've heard a lot about the wind... nervous about that Haha! Well as long everything has calmed down for you are you enjoying it now? Xx

I'm 7 weeks post op now and I'm getting there now. I've had a bit of a roller coaster ride up to now and for the first two or three weeks was very down and regretting what I had done. This is perfectly normal when you read about other people's experiences.

I am no longer regretting my decision, but if anyone says to me this is the easy option I fair feel I would slap them! Its not, but with hard work and effort we will get the results we went in for the surgery in the first place. I'm already 4 stones lighter since starting my pre op diet so already I am benefiting from losing that excess weight.

I went swimming for the first time this week and I am generally feeling healthier with that weight gone.

I feel very positive now for the future :)

Wow! Thats an amazing weight loss! Good for you! I always have to get out the calculator every time you all talk about stones so I can figure out how much that is.... LOL.

Aw that's brilliant that your getting settled with it now and great how much you have lost so far!. The people who say its the easy option have seen the before and after pics that's it, they haven't seen the emotional and physical journey it takes even to get funding! So yeah I'd also slap people xxx
