From my experience binge eating and comfort eating are not assessed as the same thing. Binge eating is seen as a serious psychological disorder (but unfortunately it is often confused with comfort eating which is not the same thing) and from what I understand most surgeons will not fit a band or do any form of wls for patients with binge eating without intensive counselling first. Yes a band can help control portions, but it depends what you binge on - e.g if it's chocolate then a band will do nothing. I would say have some more counselling and then think about a band.
When I went for my band, I was specifically asked if I had binge eating disorder. My psychotherapist who specialises in eating/bariatric surgery also says that binge eating is a no-no for wls. I thought I had binge eating disorder, but the psychiatrist who assessed me said no, just comfort eating...
I hope that you can get some support, and that you can then think about wls.
Good luck.
