So after seeing the dietician she said to me bread is a no no on a gastric band.... soooooo im now trying to recondition myself that i wont eat bread and ill use substituits (sorry spelling) so thats a ryvita! haha crikey! anyone else doing the same thing??.................:p

im cut right down to meet my weightloss target so havent had bread for a few week.s its paying off tho as im nearly a 1 stone off! which is my target via dietician.

can I ask - how many times have you met your surgeon? also do/did you meet surgeon after dietician?? or? what was your process from seminar?

Hi well i feel that i may be having things done abit differently as i came form cyprus so i had two apointments there with a surgeon and had some couselling... then ive come back to uk and ive seen Mr Balupuri once and the dietician once... so i had seminar... then my second appointment was consultant and dietician in the one appointment........im now awaiting my third appointment and was given a weight loss target of 4kgs.... around 8 pound... ive lost 3 another 5 to go but im gonna try and aim for a stone....so when do you go back to see if you ve met your weightloss?... when do you reckon you ll get your surgery? xx

Hi Kelly you may find when you've put your meals together that you don't need to substitute bread with anything. I am very very lucky that bread hasn't been a problem for me, considering i'm only 5 weeks out from my bypass i know it's a blessing. I love bread but am aware i need to avoid carbs, unlike pre op where bread was somewhere with a meal virtually every meal or for a bit of supper at night.

By the time you've eaten your protein and veg/salad you may not have room for the dreaded bread :)

I've found i quite enjoy rice cakes with various protein enriched toppings and feel oh so saintly for not having the bread. I also have melba toast but am not sure how filling they would be for a bander before hitting their 'sweet spot'.

I may buy some ryvita though now you've mentioned them as i do enjoy them with cottage cheese and they are quite filling because they are very fibrous and we cannot drink whilst eating them :) :)

hi

i had referral in dec, seminar in feb, dietician (no surgeon) in June, Surgeon in September - so Im just wondering if id go on waiting list in september or if id have another appointment before that? I dont have long to wait to find out. I have appointment for sleep apeana (spelt?) in august however that was just as precaution as my questionnaire was borderline with results so dont think i have it. I have also exceeded my weight loss target by a lb or so and will continue to try and keep going.... but thats not my issue i can lose weight just cant keep it bl**dy off!!! I was guessing surgery would be July 2011 which would be 5 months after first seminar. anything before that is a bonus i suppose x what about you any thoughts or info on your wait?

Bread is something I've not had for over a year now. I don't have sandwiches now but I do have cheese and crackers or little pancake things if I have a bit of duck

I am 8 weeks post op and I can have bread brown bread (1 slice) but I have to be very careful to chew chew chew.

Have you tried Ryvita thins......... they are lush.:)

I did the same as you and gave up bread before my op. Have not had any since April 09. Dont really miss it that much either. I tend to have the very thin melba toast or the ryvita with seeds - both are very filling post band.

Good luck x

ooo thanks guys for this... :) some people think its hurrendous to eat ryvitas but i like them!! i havent had bread all week... only had second appointmnet on 5th... so im managing ok for now good to hear your experiances so i know im not gonna be salavating bread haha xx

How every surgeon/dietician differs!!!
I had mine done(band) 7months ago and ive only lost 12lb.........my portion sizes are much reduced the only thing ive been told is nothing fizzy and avoid eating food that slips down easily!
I just eat normal meals, rarely snack just not sure what im doing wrong!!!

o gosh 12 pounds..... have you been back to your surgeon to see whats going on? well done on the loss tho x

due another fill the week after next, they are going to do it under xray so hopefully if somethings wrong they will be able to see....its as if m metabolism has shut down!

Id still have it done again, i realise now how much i overate...not frequency or bad stuff just portion sizes!!

Good luck with yours, dont worry about it (i did) it really hasnt een a problem at all except the lack of weight loss x

thanks karen xx hopefully they 'll have some answers for you best of luck x

bread swells in the stomach pouch that is why it is hard to eat....i tend to eat tortilla wraps and the ryvita crackerbreads if i fancy something like that.

just make sure you chew the wraps properly though otherwise it can get stuck!

I have recently started having 1 slice of toast for my breakfast, and I am ok with that.

Yesterday I had half of a small roll with my soup and it was ok (actually is was blinkin gorgeous).

And I agree about the ryvita crackerbreads, they are less heavy than ordinary ryvita. But I don't mind a ryvita with lots of cream cheese on.

I was advised to stay away from anything "bready" as I have a narrowing.
However, I was advised I could have crackers, crispbread, flatbread etc....
So far so good!
Philadelphia Splendips (on offer BOGOF) at Tesco has been my lunch recently and stayed put with no vomiting.
Shells
x
So I miss my bread? Yes somedays but it isnt causing me any stress

I am actually very good with bread! However i choose not to have it often as i know it's a downfall! I prefer to fill my pouch with protein and veggies which are much better for me :) x

Oh yes and i had a splendip and it was delicious :)

bread

i cant eat bread at all it seems to hit my stomach like a brick and then i have stomach cramps for about an hour so i is not worth the trouble at all
