should I tell family & work colleagues

It really is a decision for each of us to make for ourselves.

I told only my wife, daughter, my boss and a close friend pre op. mainly because I didn't want any fuss leading up to the operation and I was scared right up until I awoke post op that something might go wrong and it wouldn't happen for some reason or another.

Post op I've told the world and his wife. I am not ashamed that I had a bypass to give me the chance of a normal life. I'm ashamed that I needed one yes, but not that I did something about my food addiction and used it to a half decent effect.

It has allowed me to be totally honest with my family, friends, and work colleagues and allowed them to be honest with me. They have all been nothing but supportive to me and have helped me along the way greatly, I couldn't have done it without them.

I would say with all the publicity surrounding WLS these days that anyone seeing a formerly grossly obese person suddenly losing tons of weight and keeping it off, is going to work out the truth for themselves pretty quickly anyway. Denial or half truths on our part won't stop them knowing the reality and that turns us into liars. My integrity is very important to me so I chose to be honest and tell the truth

Once again though this really is a personal choice decision and one for the OP to make for themselves. Good luck with it whatever you decide
