size guide?

Last September, pre-op, I was a size 24, clothes were very tight!

This week I'm a size 10-12 and I even bought a dress in a size 8!!!!! It fits perfectly!

Hi, My measurements say I am somewhere between a 18 and a 20. So I am currently a mix of sizes my size 20's are to big on the waist and in danger of falling off my hips a novel experience and tops etc I have had for years seem to be gaping and revealling far more of me than I want to display and some things are still to tight. So I plan a wardrobe purge to sift through everything that is too loose now and some of the winter clothes that will be too small when it's time to wear them again.
Summer things are a challenge with my op only a few weeks away so I am investing in a small selection of those lovely elasticated boob tube type dresses that are loose and drape from the elastic so with luck will skim the chubby bits. But with luck will see me through this summer and not break the bank when they head across the road to a charity shop in the autumn. All in a size 16 as I have recently brought some wide leg trousers that are a size 16 waist they fit great and because of the wide leg are really loose on my legs thanks to the swimming and the 2st I have lost since december only another 8st to go. Oh shopping is going to be so much fun any shop cheap or expensive for some lovely things that will fit for more than one season once I have lost all I can to make it worth the investment. Yay.

On the same thing I'm now the other side of the size chart and trust me it's just has hard as being larger.... I can no longer go into next ... Dotty p,s Tesco asda and pick any thing of the rail .... I'm wearing a size six this morning that are to big for me .... I have some clothes that fit a child of ten so don't wish to hard girls xxxx

Interesting thread, and whilst it is lovely to see how much smaller people are, we are all different and you will lose at your own pace. Some race to goal in super quick time, whilst others will only drop 2 or 3 sizes before plateauing and finding it nigh on impossible to get going again.

One thing that strikes me post op is the difference in sizes depending on the shop, the cut of the garment etc... so now I am anywhere between a size 8 and 14, mostly a 10. I was squeezing into a size 24 pre op

The annoying thing about it is that you'll lose in different places at different rates. So I seem to have lost most of it off my shoulders and bust. Hence I have jackets I can now zip up which are tight on the hips but gaping on the chest.

Before Size 32/34 depending on material etc..... after Size 12/14 depending on shop and cut of garment (have quite a lot of apron) x

Started at size 24 (Dec 09), by May 2010 I was a size 14 (had to buy holiday clothes), by Dec 2010 I was a size 10 and am still that size

I have also noticed that some people can weigh 16 stone and be in a size 24 and some people like me weigh 21 stone (at my max weight) and be size 24/26

Lamornamiss, It seems it is definately a body shape thing as much as weight that dictates our clothes sizes, that and the shops cut. Yesterday I brought one of those new sun dresses with the shirring elastic top thinking this will be easy to wear post-op this summer and stay on place without gapping when I bend over.
Well Matalan a size 16 is great in Next a size 16 didn't have enough fabric to go round my middle without being very tight but another on the rail a slightly different design in a size 10 was huge now either they were mislabelled hence being in the sale or even from garment design to garment design in the same shop it can vary so much.

shops def vary with sizes...its ridiculous there should be a law against it to protect our feelings!!!

WOWO this has really inspired me, my op is mainly for health benefits and to reduce strain on my joints but I have to admit that I am excited at the prospect of buying "normal" size clothes from somewhere other than evans. Ideally before my brothers wedding on 23rd July. I am size 20 now (tho they are a little big, but 18's too tight) and would love to be a 16 by then. x x x

good luck in achieving your size 18 goal :)

Size 28 pre-op size 12 now...

One thing I have found hard is knowing which shops 'suit' me now, have pretty much lived in Next but am getting more daring now!

my mom mentioned today how I used to love clothes shopping, going to the shops and grabbing the sales. it seems by getting bigger i have lost all that and I ONLY ever do my shopping online. I have forgotten the feel of a new pair of Diesel jeans and so on. So def cant wait to be post op and get my new clothes - really CAN NOT WAIT!!! To go in to a store, pick something off the shelf, try it and IT FITS!!!

the top was size 22 bottom size 20 ....... 5 months post op size 14 top 12/14 bottom, best feeling the world to go shopping knowing that you can pick something off the rail . My favourite bit was buying normal knickers lol xx
