Another strange question from me ladies and gents :)
Just wondering the excess stomach they cut away in bypass and sleeve. Do they remove it? I watched a clip on net of sleeve surgery and they pulled it out through an incision, is that right? Do they also do that for a bypass? Xxx

Mine they are gonna leave it in cos it still helps to absorb things but a few remove it Xx

Sent from my HTC Hero using WLSurgery

My Dr told me that keeping it will still let you get pancreatic juices, Bile, etc from the bowel that is bypassed. Otherwise you could have more health problems.... The sleeve they can remove it because the bowel isn't touched.

Yep stays with you for other reasons and has its own blood supply.

In the Roux-en-Y bypass, the remaining part of the stomach is connected lower down in the intestines. It produces digestive juices which help digest the food in the intestines.

In sleeve ops, I believe it is removed (or it was on the op I saw on TV!).

I have 5 wounds on my tummy.... there 4 in a row and one above that. Of the 4 in a row the one (as I look down at it) that is 2nd from my right hand side is the largest - maybe 1inch - this is the one where my left over stomach was removed. In a sleeve op they remove 75-80% of your stomach the technical term used for the op is a Sleeve Gastrectomy, gastrectomy being full or partial removal of stomach. Hope this helps ;) x x

9? Perhaps he just liked stabbing you! lol. I only have 5 wounds plus a little tiny nick where I think he was going to make a cut, then changed his mind and did it elsewhere.

i look a bit like a continental quilt at the moment with all the scars still being red etc and had two fantastic dents where they had to stitch my muscles because they bled so badly i would've got my hubby to take a photo but i daren't even let him have a look :) anyway thankfully they're much better now but i'll never wear a bikini :) (not that i would anyway )

I have 5 scars from my bypass and hernia repair xx

it was supposed to be 5 so i don't really know why they did so many more , and maybe he'd had a row with his wife and took it out on me instead of stabbing her :)

Wow, NINE scars!! I thought I was top of the league with seven, but I have to admit defeat graciously now!
