Sunderland

Hi sunshine I had my seminar in September 2012 and had my bypass in Sunderland jan this year, it feels like your life is on hold once you've made the decision and the wait for the appointments seems endless, use the time to gather as much info as possible, any questions just ask :)

Hi Tracey,
Thanks for the quick response. It is good to hear from people further on than me. Your bio shows some really good weight loss, well done! How are you feeling now it is a few months on from bypass?

Loads of thoughts, I thought I'd lose more weight, I didn't expect to be able to eat as much as I can, I don't dump which I'm not sure if this is good or bad as I've developed a sweet tooth haha, I don't feel like I've had surgery but I am constantly exhausted! No regrets even though the weight loss is slow :) what surgery are you looking at?

I am not sure what surgery, do they take what you think in to consideration or do they decide for you?

If you don't mind me asking… your total weight loss says 77lb, how much have you lost since bypass? Did they ask you to lose weight before hand?

I started at just under 21 and half stone the day of my surgery (4th jan) I was a fraction under 18 stone I've been weighed today at 15 stone 6, the weight loss hasn't been huge since surgery but the inches have fallen dramatically, I was squeezing into a size 24 and now I'm squeezing Into a 18 this pic was April last year then July then February this year :)

I think the team at Sunderland do sleeves bypass and mini bypass they will talk you through each at the seminar, I also got weighed at my seminar. About 8 weeks after seminar I had my first appointment with the bariatric nurse who talked about my history and food Intake etc I then saw the dietician who again discussed healthy eating and changes they set me a target of 8lb to lose my next appointment was 4 month later, I'd met the target plus more, met the surgeon who discussed my eating etc he suggested the bypass for me I never questioned it he was the expert. In October I had the endoscopy (not pleasant but part of the process) they were more than happy with my weight loss and changes to
My lifestyle and diet, at this point I was put on the weighting list for surgery, they say from then it's no longer than 6 month it felt like forever!! Got a phone call Xmas Eve from
Hospital they'd had a cancellation could I go in 4/1 had to start pre op diet immediately, I went I to panic mode for all I'd been researching for a year I still went giddy at the thought it was happening so quick (sorry that was long winded) x

Wow Tracey, that really is quite a difference!

I think both the weight loss and how you look are amazing. I think we just have to ignore the numbers some times (although I think thats quite a lot you have shed) :) I bet you are feeling much healthier now?

Did Sunderland ask you to attend any weight loss classes before putting you on their waiting list? I know some hospitals do but have not heard anyone say that about Sunderland.

ah you posted while I was asking my last question!

Thanks for being patient and answering my many questions :)

I think that's quite new I'm not sure if Sunderland have started doing this or not, have you got a lot of weight to lose? Have you tried all the normal ww slim world, tablets n fad diets like most of us on here?

I have got about 7 stone to lose but I also have other health problems.
I have indeed tried WW, SW, pills, many diets, a therapist, and most recently a specialist weight management program (which was connected to Sunderland's WLS even though I was not looking at surgery at the time.) This lost its funding about a month ago though so I am not sure sunderland will have a program any more.

I noticed Mr Small is your consultant. He is on my referral to be mine too. What's he like?

Hmm… I just posted and it vanished! Il try again.

Hi
I'm going through Sunderland, after your seminar you will have an appointment with the biatric nurse and dietician. I was set a weight loss target of 11lb, I'm waiting for my next app now.

Ahh well it may pop up a few times later on then.

Hi Lucy, Its great to see someone just ahead of me, helps me know what to expect! Good luck with your target weight loss and for your next appointment.

My next app will be June so I have 12 weeks to lose 11lb, I've lost 9lb so far, I just need another 2lb then to maintain. If at any point in my journey I put weight on I've been told I'll be discharged so I'm determined to get this 11lb off and maybe a bit more and keep it off. I've been told I should have op Nov/Dec this year

Keeping it off is hard it's all about making changes, I cut out white bread then I was less tempted to make fishfinger sarnies n things like that, I kept crisps to twice a week n went to skimmed milk etc.. It's not easy but you have to prove to them and yourself that you can change your bad habits, it's a long hard few month between appointments but all worth it in the end :)

Yeah I have made lots of changes, smaller plate etc. it's not that hard actually well I'm ill at the min but getting much better so will be having good healthy meals again by Monday
