Well I arrived at kings college hospital shortly after 8pm on monday eve,nurses were lovely who settled me in .Had obs done and my bp was quite high and my pulse was 102 .Then the panic started .I needed an ecg .The ecg showed changes on two of the leads ,so now they call a specialist and think I have a pulmonary embolism (clot in lung).
I remain calm because this is not the first time ive been in hospital and they think I have this ,then it turns out I dont .
Say I wll be rushed for a scan .....anyway the night passes without the scan .
7 am ...they come into me ask me to scrub up ...im going to theatre first !!!!
whoo hoo ........
I DO SO AND THE WAIT BEGINS .
Then they come and say I need the scan first .
Takes until 2.40 pm to get the scan sorted.
They then leave me in the corridor on my bed whilst they decide my fate .
3.30 pm They com bk and say ure going to theatre .
I had my best friend with me and she came as far as she could with me .
They got me to sign consent again outside theatre .
Then left me there for 45 mins roughly on my own .
I just dosed and kept myself calm .Strangely I felt as though I was in a semi meditative state .There but not there ,I had been looking for signs since I arrived that I would be ok.
There was the flying scotsman book on the dayroom table (my dad was scottish )
Then a lady was wheeled into my ward late at night and dressing gown as my best friend ....strangely reassuring .
Anyway a lovely anaesthetist called Jay came along .I told him it was my sons birthday and he couldnt get no bad news today .He was lovely ...he said I get half my money to put u to sleep and the other half to wake u up again !!!!
Asked me if i still wanted to do this ....i said yes .
Then another nurse came over and the first thing i saw were wings coming out of her ear.I said to her whats that in ur ear ? A fairy ?
She said ..no its a unicorn ....well that was it for me then !!!!!
I love love love unicorns ......
they start to wheel me down and I ask them to stop at the toilet so I can empty out .I tell him I dont want a catheter in after .
We do this and my surgeon comes up and asks wot the delay is and they say shes going to the loo.
Get in the rom on the table and someone waves the consent form at me again
and then set everything up .
He tells me im having some nice red wine and puts the mask on me .I take 4 breaths and Im in recovery >>>>>>
