Taking off dressings

I can anybody help me when is the best time to take off my dressings?? I have heard different things? I dread this bit but really wanting a shower wuss I know x

You need to ask your provider Sue, each one will use different dressings or methods of re sealing us ie stitches, glue or staples x

i took mine off after a week, as soon as them socks came off so did dressings x

My friend was done on the wednesday, told to remove dressings on the sunday. She could shower with hers, they were waterproof.

Mine were waterproof too & had a shower every day with them on. They came off when I went to the nurse for my staples removing on day 10 & I was able to then have a bath .... heaven xx

i showered as soon as i got home jus tried not to soak the dressings x

I had to take my dressings off on day 2 as I was allergic to the adhesive- not a pretty sight I might add. Worse than the wound! I ended up using tissues and sellotape! haha.

I had the glue babe and I've been showering every day. 'the main wound has leaked a bit and is still tender but the others have healed up nicely. Still can't lie on my left side but managing my right ok xxx

i could only lay on right side too as it hurt laying on left x

How long did it take u to be able to lie on the left. It's the side I usually sleep on!!

I am so lucky I lay on my right and can do!! Cat lady are you getting hungry now? X

Hey sue! I'm feeling a bit more energised and hungry but equally full with so little! Everything is moving now if u know what I mean so feel a lot better! How's ure wound? It's only my main one under the left breast that hurts now-still badly but I'm coping! Allowed soft foods from Saturday-stuff I can mash with a fork! Xxx

Hi I thought we were on liquids for 2 weeks?? I had my op on the 4th nov and got told liquids for 2 weeks, my wounds are ok up to now, dressings off and they still got steri strip on so waiting for them to fall off, I just can't wait to feel food in my mouth, I sucked on a Pringles today as friends called round for a beer and snacks x

Yeah i wondered that after looking through this site but I was emailled to say that I could do solids a week later. My bmi is 32 so not sure if it's that? I've also been told I can return to exercise in two weeks once the wounds are healed? I thought about sucking on a pringle yesterday-how weird! Do u get a sharp pain in the left hand side if you breathe in too far or laugh/cough? Xxx

I had that the other day like a stitch feeling I actually rung up the helpline, I was told it the port and the tube embedding, take pain killers, have you got a fill in yours yet? Mine is empty at the min think that is why I am finding it so hard, if u wanna text me as we are the same time feel free can assist each other 07530002556 x

Yeah just got my booklet from the hospital group and def says 2 weeks liquids then puréed food 2 weeks, then should get a call from the dietician x

Thanks sue! Wish it would hurry up and embed! OH keeps making me laugh and it hurts! I have 4mls in mine. Got small band that can take 10mls. I'll def text u and we can catch up xx
