Was Insulted today

I was in Ikea today with my daughter when I heard a voice shout "Mum can you push me". Thinking I may be in someone's way I turned round to see a girl about 15-16 years old struggling in a wheelchair. Though not in her way I move to the side and continued to wait for my daughter. Then I heard the girl say "Fat C##t".

In all my life I have never heard such comment made regarding my weight. I've never felt like eyes were looking down me either, till now. I was stunned at what I heard and didn't react because I was in disbelief. I think my daughter was more angry when I told her.

I'm new here, but read your post and just had to say I'm totally shocked at how some kids are so disrespectful and really hateful. I'm so sorry you had to go through that - totally unacceptable. I know for myself, I'm constantly teaching my son (who is only 5) about acceptance of all people - no matter who they are or where they are from or what they look like. Good lesson for us all it seems!

how awful. You would think that the girl in the wheelchair is all too aware of how hurtful it is to be discriminated against in that way. Im gobsmacked that she would say such a disgusting thing.

That's awful Pinky, really nasty. It is their problem - not yours - you wouldn't have said something horrible to them about anything. It could have been tourettes I guess - although the people I know tend to twitch and have a tirade.
Don't worry though as the God of Ikea will ensure that their purchases will be particularly difficult to put together and the instructions only in Swedish.

totally uncalled for.. absolutely disgusting.. I've brought my kids up to know that everyone is different (partly as daughter is s/n and has difficulties) and made sure she realises not everyone is the same but always be polite and show respect.. and she does too..

reminds me of my similar situation once before.. in shoe shop with daughter - me in wheelchair as osteo was bad at the time n had trouble walking.. anyway.. this slip of a girl - maybe 24 at the most.. asked me to move, so I did.. n got 'you dont even need to be in that thing, why dont ya get off your fu**in ass n lose weight' n she walked off..
as if that wasnt bad enough.. about 20mins later in car park of local Te**o - same girl, different tirade.. similar lines.. did some enquiring - and she was a member of staff there! was gobsmacked.. so put in a complaint to manager.. she's seen me since and puts her head down.. hhmmmm....

<< I cant wait til all this is over with - so can walk up to her n ask her whether I fit into her idea of a normal person rather than someone in a wheelchair with a degenerative bone condition that I cant control - but she can and should control her mouth before she gets into serious trouble..
